Being married for over 25 years to my lovely wife, I have an undeniable passion for helping couples find a better way.
Have you ever wished you had a relationship mentor? “Loving well is an art, Getting there is a science.” Backed by over 40 years of research is why I have been practicing Gottman Methods for 15 years thus far. My couples come to me because they are struggling with understanding each other, their struggles in how to communicate and resolve conflict has not only destroyed their friendship but has left them feeling alone and leading parallel lives. They desire that connection and miss the fondness and admiration, and intimacy they once had.

Couples therapy is my passion and mission in life.
Do you struggle to connect and communicate with your partner which affects the ability to live the life you desire? Do you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted by the thought there is no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you wonder if your relationship could be better? Now more than ever, many couples, are feeling hopeless about attaining the relationship they desire. Real solutions, focused treatments, and hope for the future are what I work to provide for each and every client. No two people have walked the same path in life. I will feel honored to hear your story.

While I see individuals and couples for general psychotherapy, I have a particular interest in working with women, whether during early adulthood, mid-life or beyond.
My clients generally reach out for help when struggling with an adjustment, a loss, or a relationship that has problems. I most often see women, during pregnancy or postpartum, or at other times of crisis or difficulty during their lives. The relationship that I form with my clients is the most important aspect of the therapy, as it is the trust and emotional safety that is the foundation for the work we will do. It is within that therapeutic relationship that a deeper understanding of oneself and change can occur.

My education and 15 years experience have prepared me to work with individuals, couples and families with a breadth of issues and from a variety of cultural backgrounds and demographics.
The heart and soul of how I help others is as a counselor who meets clients where they are in life, relationships, struggles, and so on - with the goal of gaining your trust and helping move you through discouraging and challenging circumstances, while sharing in God's reality for your life. I believe in the value of working through personal problems and issues in the context of stronger relationships. I will help you with this on a personal level by building healthier mental and emotional processing, individually, as well as within your most impactful relationships.

I've achieved basic and advanced training in EMDR therapy specifically for attachment trauma, training through the International Association of Clinical Sex Addiction Specialists for spouses of betrayal, and training through the Gottman Institute for couples work.
Have you ever wondered if your past sexual experiences might be negatively affecting your current well being? My counseling practice centers around helping individuals and couples who have experienced sexual trauma and/or brokenness in any of its various forms. Whether it be due to past abuse, recent infidelity, or a history of sexual, physical and emotional betrayal and trauma, I consider it a privilege to walk with clients into the darkness of their stories. I enjoy coming alongside and advocating for those who are tired of just coping, dissatisfied with their quality of life, and desperate for deep change and healing.

For couples: It’s not easy to maintain a relationship and grow as individuals at the same time.
Finding, and accepting, your authentic self takes some work, and it gets messy. It can be even more difficult to show up as that person consistently. We are always receiving messages about who we are supposed to be. The shame and guilt that come from not fitting the mold can be overwhelming. Not everything happens the way we hope, and the pressure to reach our goals as quickly as possible seems daunting. The feelings that come up with these challenges can be hard to navigate, much less being present in the moment when everything you want seems far away. Let’s work together to help you be more true to the person you want to be!

In my ten years as a counselor, it's been my privilege to care for men, teens, and couples wrestling with depression, stress, and anxiety; addiction (drugs and alcohol; gambling; sexual...); the grief involved with divorce; the struggles associated with life's transitions; difficulties in school and relationships; and family conflict. My hope is that the men and women I talk to would be able to experience intimacy in their relationships, fullness of life, and find success in their daily lives.

Reach out, I want to partner with you!.
Most people are doing the best they can in life with the skills they have available. When life becomes overwhelming, unbearable, or unfulfilling, counseling can help you find & experience the joy & love you desire - even in the face of adversity. Counseling can be helpful when you are ready to make changes in your life and when you desire someone to journey with you to realize your best self. In our work together, we will collaborate to set goals that you want to achieve. For some, this may be a change in how you are thinking and feeling. For others, you might be ready to work to find deeper healing through processing your trauma.

I relish the privilege to work with adults, children, families, and couples who hope to repair, renew, or recreate meaningful connections while eliminating any lasting resentment or mistrust.
I have openings on Sat, Weds PM, and Tues & Thurs AM! I'm here to acknowledge your internal experience and to help determine if any external forces are disturbing your peace of mind. Sometimes our personal challenges can feel unapproachable, and if left unmanaged, these struggles can breed negative outlooks which cultivates the loss of connection and purpose. Without connection, what happens to your authentic voice? With no purpose, how often does anxiety and/or depression hijack your thinking? My style is for you, your marriage, or your family if you/they need reconnection, restoration, or insight into a new, peaceful normal.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
