Many children and adults suffer from a hyper-sensitivity to specific common soft sounds such as a chewing, breathing, snoring, typing, (and almost any soft sound). This condition is called misophonia, were a person hears or sees a "trigger" and has an immediate anger/disgust response. My ideal client is someone who is motivated and willing to work to greatly reduce or eliminate their misophonic reactions.
I have researched misophonia for 7 years. I understand what misophonia is, how it develops, and how to reduce or eliminate the misophonic response. The primary treatment is relaxation training so the client develops the ability to relax, and then methods of applying that ability in everyday situations. For children and preteens we use counterconditioning.
There is hope for those with misophonia, even though YouTube and social media say there is no hope. We have treated hundreds of people.
