I have been working in the field of mental healthcare since 2012. While my experience has granted me the privilege of working with a variety of ages and issues, I am most passionate about working with trauma, anger management, panic, anxiety, cutting and self-harming, dissociation, and domestic violence. I have training in EMDR, a specialized therapy developed for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress and other trauma related concerns. I also frequently utilize mindfulness and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training in my approach as a way to build resilience and healthy coping.

I strive to connect to each of my clients by creating a foundation of trust and curiosity, and utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and mindfulness skills, and group therapy.
Beginning counseling can feel daunting and overwhelming. While it can feel like stepping into uncharted waters, you often seek support when you are already feeling weak, tired, and eager for change. It is important to find a space where you can come just as you are and share, question, grieve - and even celebrate - whatever you may be facing. I have experience working with sex addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, couples work, grief and loss, pre-marital counseling, and spiritual direction. I feel passionate about working with those who feel stuck- whether in self-discovery or in unhealthy behaviors.

I use mindfulness, somatic, relational and psychodynamic approaches to help uncover the different parts of the self that have either been overlooked, repressed, or undiscovered which can lead to various mental health issues.
You are waking up to the realization that the one who is going to break the cycle of dysfunction in your family is you. There has to be more to life than just existing within the patterns that have come to feel normal; your heart yearns for a more meaningful existence. Still, you aren't sure how to break out of the cycle, set boundaries and figure out what you really want and need to do. I get it, taking full responsibility for your own well-being and creating a better future for yourself sounds like a monumental task, however, you don't have to do it alone.

I'm a specialist in cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness, addressing anxiety/stress, depression, chronic pain, trauma, and insomnia.
I partner with individuals who are dealing with issues related to mood or emotions, sleep, chronic pain, trauma, or stress. Understanding that: 1. our minds and bodies are inextricably intertwined (shout out to our incredible Nervous System!), and, 2. there is often an overlap between mood, sleep, trauma, chronic pain, or stress... when we work on one area, it also has benefits in other areas! We leverage the power of these interconnections to help you figure out and move in the direction of what's really important to you in your life.

I utilize a variety of modalities depending on the situation, including CBT, mindfulness, family systems, and EFT.
Do you find yourself feeling alone, wondering if something is "wrong" with you? Feeling like things just don't make sense? I'm here to say that you are not broken; you make sense. I believe we are all a product of a multitude of things: our past experiences, our relationships, our biology, our actions, our thoughts- and when we take the time to look at all these different things, we find that we do, in fact, make sense. I would be honored to walk beside you as you ask hard questions, discover deep places inside yourself, examine relationships in your life, and get more in touch with the unique and irreplaceable person that is YOU.

My approaches to therapy are psychoeducation, psychodynamic, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and trauma-informed models.
Symptoms/issues that I most often treat are anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem, parenting issues, divorce, trauma, emotion regulation/anger management, and others. I work with kids (3 and up), adults, and families. In addition to in-session work with clients I offer court-related services, such as expert testimony; I see this as a necessary avenue through which I passionately advocate for my clients' well-being. My niche populations are survivors and victims of domestic violence. I have the educational and real-life experience to treat the traumatic mental and emotional effects of abusive relationship experiences.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
