My approach to therapy is Cognitive Behavior therapy, art and play therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma focused.
I’m so glad you have taken the necessary steps to begin your healing journey and I’m looking forward to working together. As a therapist, I have learned that a person’s greatest pain can also be their greatest source of strength. I help my clients, who include children, adults and families, to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they can know themselves as peaceful, complete, whole and safe. I will offer and assist with psychological education on specific issues, remain solution-focused, and always listening without judgment.

Being a clinical mental health counselor and art therapist allows me to work with a spectrum of clients by using evidence-based and creative approaches.
If you are looking to support your experience or your child's experience with autism, sensory processing challenges, anxiety, ADHD, or self-esteem, a dual approach of mental health counseling and art therapy can be especially beneficial. I enjoy providing a safe, healing space for children, teens, young adults, and parents who are seeking support for neurodiversity in a neurotypical world. Providing art therapy and creative interventions are central to my clinical mental health counseling approach.

My goal as your therapist is to support and empower you toward your goals and promote healing. I believe in listening to your story, helping you uncover your priorities, and offering the tools to help you decide next steps. This may involve utilizing the healing power of exercise, art, or play; it may also involve processing your thoughts on a deeper level verbally or through writing. I believe optimal health encompasses the whole person physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and creatively. I see all these areas as connected. Because every person is unique, I will tailor our time to your individual needs and interests.

My goal as a counselor is to ride the rollercoaster beside you so that you can have the best outcome possible. I am currently working towards certification as an eating disorder specialist, yet I also work with a wide range of clients and symptoms. No matter where you are in life, seeking counseling is a courageous step to healing and growth for your future.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
