David Cooper LMSW, has worked within the behavioral health field for over 20 years. He is a fully licensed Master level mental health therapist. Dave’s primary focus early in treatment is centered on trust development, and understanding of what the client would like to gain from the therapeutic experience. In doing so, Dave primarily utilizes a cognitive behavioral therapy approach, combined with other clinical models including strength-based and solution-focused interventions. The aim with these clinical models is to allow for effective change in a client’s life through such things as psychoeducation, affect modulation.
Dave primarily works with clients between 17 and 65 years of age. Current clinical focus encompasses anxiety, depression, mood stability, substance abuse, life changes and general environmental stress. Dave also specialized in sports psychology working with athletes on mental health preparation, growth mind set and reduction of performance anxiety.
Dave’s direct professional experience over the past 20 years is as follows: Intensive-Foster care therapists and case manager; Certified trauma therapist; Mental health liaison for the State of Michigan and Community Mental Health; Program and Clinic Manager for Community Mental Health; Director of Clinical Services for St Vincent Catholic Charities.
