Do you feel like your anxiety or depression is controlling your life? Do you often get overwhelmed easily? It feels as though it limits you from having the life you always wanted.
Hello, I'm Jamie. My approach to counseling is that every person has the "power" to redirect their lives that will lead to living a fulfilled happy life. I am completely committed and driven to help you discover inspiration, empowerment and clarity to start working towards eliminating symptoms. I help clients tap in their own capabilities to become resilient when faced with feelings and thoughts that keep us down the same "old" path. I believe if we work together, you will discover again that you are courageous, capable, and amazing. It's time to take that step towards a "new you".

I've worked with many issues including depression, anxiety, oppositional behaviors, ADHD, dating and relationship issues.
I have over 35 years of experience working with children, adults, couples and families on a wide variety of life problems. It is important to find a therapist that is a good fit, someone with whom you feel comfortable and who takes your concerns seriously. My approach is supportive, confidential and empathetic in helping individuals and families recognize their own needs and strengths. It's not uncommon to get stuck in unsatisfying and frustrating situations. Through our relationship you can start to become aware of issues that interfere with feeling better and use your strengths to make changes and move forward.

I have extensive experience counseling those struggling with anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, OCD, panic disorder, and other mental health concerns by providing caring support while teaching effective coping skills.
In our fast-paced and complex world, life can sometimes feel overwhelming. In addition to managing the day-to-day, our internal experience can feel more chaotic than the world around us. There may be days when you can’t get out of your head. Other times you may feel the full spectrum of emotion in a single day, hour, or even minute. This makes it easy feel lost and lose sight of what truly matters. Fortunately, there are ways to take a break from the whirlwind, orient yourself, and move towards aspects of life you truly value.

There is nothing more disheartening than when loss, sadness, anxiety and life difficulties are the first thing you think of in the morning, and the last thing you think of before going to bed.
Everyone wants to live a life with self-compassion and strong connections to those they care about most, but sometimes we need some help along the way. Therapy can be intimidating, so my number one priority is to provide an environment of safety and trust. For me, the road to healing begins when we recognize that we are each our own worst critic, and that it is okay to not be perfect all the time. I strongly believe that therapy is a collaborative experience, and my main goal is for you to leave each session feeling uplifted, hopeful and one step closer to reaching your personal goals.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
