I have experience in working with anxiety, depression, relational issues, self-esteem, grief and loss, and marital.
Do you feel overwhelmed? Are you having a difficult time coping? Life can be hard and the traumatic events (divorce, job loss, the death of a loved one, abuse) that take place in our lives can affect us in ways that sometimes we are not even aware. Therapy is a wonderful way to explore those hidden parts of our lives that we rarely talk about or are hesitant to share. As your therapist, I provide a client centered environment that is safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental. My goal is to provide support for you and an individualized plan that is unique to your situation.

Marriage Counseling: Research shows that couples can learn to repair, rebuild and rediscover how to interact in ways that foster love and respect when they have the right tools.
"HOW DID THINGS GET THIS OUT OF CONTROL?" Sound familiar? Is your life spinning out of control because of sexual addiction? Is your marriage in trouble because of fighting or infidelity? Do you find it hard to stick up for yourself in relationships? Have you been facing depression and anxiety but can't seem to snap out of it? By the time many people make it into counseling, they often feel directionless, let down, angry, and without hope. The good news is that things can get better and I want to help you in that process.

In 30 years of private practice, I have learned some basic truths about people: each person is a unique individual, is attempting to do the best they can with their circumstances and abilities, seeks recognition and validation of their worth, desires a sense of belonging and purpose, and has an inner source of empowerment and health that can be accessed. I am an actively engaged, compassionate therapist, addressing the difficulties of adult life: anxiety, relationships, marriage, loneliness, anger, depression, addictions, not fulfilling one's dreams, coping with illness, loss and death, struggles with creativity and spirituality.

Hope, healing, wholeness. This is what we all want. But instead we sometimes feel despair, broken, and alone. We long to feel loved and understood. But often that doesn't happen. Something has gone wrong. Life is not what we had hoped. We are not who we want to be. Are you troubled by guilt, destructive behavior, discouragement or depression? Or perhaps it's marital problems, being a single adult, or adolescent issues. Maybe you struggle with a constant feeling of failure, the pain of sexual abuse, or the memory of bullying. There is help-and hope.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
