I have also worked with families with young children providing Early On and Infant Mental Health home-based and community services dealing with parent-child relationship, attachment, behavioral issues and mental health.
Since feelings are first, how are you coping in your current situation, relationship, family, work or culture? Has life or stress "got you down"? Are you Still waiting for some change or Better Days? Then, consider private practice with an experienced and knowledgeable therapist who works with a diverse population dealing with various mental health issues. I work with clients ranging from young children to older adults with issues such as anxiety, family conflicts, behavioral issues, mood disorders, relationships issues, and trauma. I am multilingual and can also provide therapy services in Chaldean and Arabic.

Hello, my name is Laura. I rceived my Master of Clinical Social Work Degree from Rutgers University with a focus on providing mental Health Services to individuals in needs. I have a background working with individuals, families and groups of various ages within inpatient and outpatient settings. I have training in Motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Let's face it, finding a suitable therapist can be scary and uncertain right? It's like a bag of skittles never know what you're going to get. If you are seeking therapy for yourself, look no further.

Throughout the seasons of our lives, we are presented with life’s obstacles and challenges. Therapy is what guides us through life’s difficulties while acknowledging that we are not alone. I will meet you where you are and be a helping hand through your circumstances. I believe that developing trust and a strong therapeutic relationship are crucial to guiding clients to reach their full potential. Prior to working in private practice, I worked as a school social worker providing therapy and advocating for adolescents, young children, and families. I have also worked with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder for 3 years.

It takes courage in recognizing the first step in your journey to healing. Making that initial call and asking for mental support can be daunting, but it is a journey you will continue to grow from throughout your life. I believe there must be a level of comfort and connection between therapist and client in order to feel emotionally safe and vulnerable. Together, we will work on creating a strong alliance that is built on trust, respect, and compassion. Recovery can be challenging, and may feel impossible- creating the space you need to explore your thoughts and behaviors can help you process where your feelings are coming from.

If you or someone you love identifies as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) or neuro-divergent then I am happy we found each other! As a previous nurse assistant, teacher (toddler-12th grade) and childcare director, I have spent over a decade immersed in hands-on research to better study effective evidence based approaches for treating children and their support systems. I use these approaches eclectically to help clients and their families with sensory regulation, behavioral issues, and counsel the client's entire support system to bring balance.

My philosophy involves the sharing of personal problems, concerns, and stories with a counseling professional who is skilled at helping the client come to a resolution or solution about their particular situation. I work primarily through talk therapy in a casual, client-centered environment, avoiding prescriptive "homework" assignments. Instead, I focus on helping clients incorporate desired changes into their daily lives in a practical, achievable way. I also have extensive experience in higher education, providing guidance on the FAFSA process, college applications, and career exploration.

I primarily use the modalities of Child Parent Psychotherapy, Infant Parent Psychotherapy, Play therapy, and DBT, as well as elements of PCIT, and CBT.
Welcome! I love working with clients through pregnancy, perinatal/postpartum, and early childhood stages. I often hear similar questions, whose needs do I attend to first? Is this behavior from my child typical or something more concerning? Should I talk about the trauma with my child or could that make it worse? Am I doing this parenting thing right? Parenting is incredibly hard and truthfully, there is no single right way to parent. But you don’t have to sit with those thoughts or questions alone; together we can explore the patterns and experiences of your family, ask questions, and identify what you value most as a parent.

I am licensed, trained and certified in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy ( PCIT), Trauma Focused CBT, Postpartum Adjustment/Depression (PPA-PPD) and Exposure Therapy for PTSD.
Client needs are my FIRST priority. I am a specialist in evidence-based treatments (EBT), which radically improves my client's success rates, increases effectiveness of treatment, and gets results quickly. The majority of my client's report improvements, within the first session: life-functioning (work- home-school-relationships) and report immediate reduction in symptoms. Reducing anxiety/panic, decreasing depression, developing stronger coping strategies to stress and balancing mood dysregulation are my specialty, as symptoms can result from adjustment challenges to sudden life changes: parenthood/divorce/grief/college. We collaborate on thinking traps, tracking triggers, modifying behavior, successful coping skills and strengthening resiliency.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
