I have personal experience with many life circumstances that have humbled me as a clinician, including trauma, grief, loss, anxiety, depression, and chronic illness.
The path to healing can be complex and even scary at times and we all handle life’s curveballs in our own unique ways. I believe in illuminating the inner parts of ourselves that we aren’t always aware of, but that allow us to better navigate our own path. As a therapist, I believe every person has the potential for change and to live a meaningful life and it is my job to assist you on that path.

Life's challenges keep coming. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationships, anger; do these issues sound familiar? I am dedicated to assisting people working through these and other problems getting in the way of living a productive and emotionally satisfying life. My clients seek counseling to: cope with anxiety and panic attacks; resolve troubling relationships; learn stress reduction skills to manage physical and mental reactions to chronic illness; cope with transitions and losses; manage anger and/or prevent angry outbursts; and explore whether their substance use, eating, or gambling patterns are interfering with their lives. Often Cognitive Behavioral therapy can help.

I offer a very personalized approach to counseling. I believe in the power of a person's story and how that story has brought them to where they are at presently. I work from an integrated person-centered approach. One size/technique does NOT fit all in counseling. Moreover, I'm a believer in the therapeutic relationship being the key ingredient to effective therapy. I work with issues such as: grief, depression, anxiety, chronic- pain, panic, school issues and much more. Counseling is not the easy way through a life concern; it takes work and commitment. I promise to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for self-exploration.

My psychology focuses on one's ability to grow, gain stable emotional health and have satisfying relationships. I see clients dealing with anxiety, depression, co-dependency, coping skills, self-esteem, life transitions, grief, crisis management, post-traumatic stress, and geriatric issues. I help my clients separate their thinking from their feelings, to be able to see what is real from what they are feeling. That is, what is going on inside themselves; introducing the opportunity to live without anxiety, fear, and depression. Feelings are often easily confused for reality and it is helpful to be able to recognize the difference.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
