EMDR and DBT Informed treatment allows for adaptive processing to relieve the symptoms associated with traumatic experiences and problems within the environments.
Reaching out for help can be difficult and frightening. You deserve commitment to maintaining a non-judgmental and collaborative therapy environment when the time comes. Our tendency as humans is to avoid any contact with painful emotions and disturbing memories. Unfortunately, during traumatic experiences our minds focus on the worst part; so this remains our experience. Much like our bodies, our minds have the potential to heal if given the opportunity and will move to a more adaptive experience. I look forward to sharing in you journey.

Scared? Uncertain? Feeling like no one will understand how you feel or know how to help? Do you think that even a “professional” will judge you or not understand what you’re going through? I get it… Making the decision to ask for help is hard- it takes courage. I think most of us would like to think we can deal with whatever life throws at us- until we can’t. … and the proverbial "shit hits the fan". My goal is to help you confront the issue(s) standing in the way of the life you want. You don’t have to do it alone. Sometimes we all need a new perspective to consider. In the most simplistic of terms, that’s what therapy is about.

We all experience different levels of these problems in our lives and my goal is to work through these concerns and make a stronger person through a therapeutic relationship.

I am trained in CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Please EMAIL rather than call. I am passionate about working with people who have experienced trauma as well as those who are neurodiverse. I have found that people who are ADHD, Autistic, or AuDHD can have more difficulty with processing their trauma due to coping mechanisms and masking. My goal is to help those who have experienced developmental trauma/emotionally immature caregivers as well as those who experienced more obvious trauma(s). I strive to work with people to be able to validate their own experiences, find and believe the truth about themselves, and for them to live their lives authentically.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
