My clinical focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, loss and grief, and couples therapy.
It can be challenging to start therapy and share your experiences with someone you don’t know. While the process in therapy is sometimes difficult, it can help us to learn more about ourselves and become aware of our behaviors and core values. My approach in therapy is to provide a safe enviroment so you can be yourself, learn more about who you are and become aware of what interrupts your connection with your enviroment, values, or the way you like to live your life.

Psychological symptoms are not only a source of suffering, they are also a message that speaks to desires, conflicts, and pain, wrought by a personal history that can sometimes only come alive when spoken to a professional listening other. The flip-side of anxiety is always a passionate dream that has not been encountered as such. I see my work as bringing my clients closer to that possibility. The intimacy of speaking and listening is rare and a gift.

I specialize in transforming relationships, working as an Emotionally Focused Therapist with a focus on couples and individuals. I believe that by enhancing a couple's dynamic, we not only assist them but positively impact future generations. Many individuals' most significant challenges stem from relational issues. As relationships improve, individual struggles often become more manageable.

Hi there! My name is Ghazaleh! As you’re reading this, you might be thinking about how difficult it is to reach out and ask someone for any type of help…especially when it comes to mental health. Well, let me reassure you that it is normal and I’m here to help you through that. I grew up with there being a lot of stigma around mental health and have lived my life trying to change that within my family. Now, I have the confidence to change that for others and communities as well. Being a voice for the voiceless is my ultimate goal.

I work with a wide range of patients with a primary focus on creating a space to allow for the work to start to acknowledge, engage and integrate different parts of themselves - leading in time to a more fulfilling and informed life. This is difficult, often painful work. In a way, you come in to this to have to fail, to let go of who you think you should be (past and present) and find ways to see where you are rather than where you are not.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
