Everyone deserves a sense of control over their lives. When terrible things happen it can feel like the wind has been knocked out of you. The world feels unsafe. Feelings of deep sadness, fear, shame and a rawness seem to linger. Many people feel as though they are damaged goods and wonder if they will ever be themselves again, or if they will ever be happy again. Imagine what it will be like when you have more good days then bad, when you feel the laughter, when you hear your child start to sing again. In a relaxed, safe environment you will receive support, encouragement, and the skills you need to thrive not just survive.

If you are like me, the step of reaching out to someone when you're struggling is the hardest part. I do my best to offer a welcoming environment to all people. I have training in helping people who have experienced trauma or stress in their life, teaching skills to help clients feel more in control of their emotions, and guiding people to learn what coping skills they can use to get through more difficult times in their life! I know that each person is unique, so my treatment approach is different for each individual.

The process should also be relaxing and enjoyable...even when tackling difficult topics. I would like to help you to achieve whatever goals you have for yourself and help you to overcome the obstacles that are standing in your way. These obstacles can be depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, PTSD, and substance abuse... just to name a few. Let me help you work through those.

Acknowledging our feelings of being stuck and having the desire to make positive changes are crucial initial steps in the process of self-improvement. It's completely normal to feel uncertain about where to start, but taking that first step towards action is essential. Remember, every journey towards personal growth is unique, and it's important to be patient and compassionate with yourself along the way. Together, we can work towards breaking these cycles and creating a life that reflects our true aspirations and values.

Life changes happen to all of us. Sometimes they happen all at once and sometimes they happen over a long period of time. Maybe you've found yourself struggling to adjust to a major life change or maybe you've realized that it's time to talk about issues that have been building over many years. Whatever the case, I believe that now is the just the right time to begin the process of healing, building connection, and living wholeheartedly.

Not accepting new clients
Not accepting new clients: I gravitate to "working outside the box" with individuals, groups, couples, and families whose lives have been negatively impacted by trauma. I have focused on women and men who were physically, emotionally or sexually abused as children or individuals traumatized as adults. Treating veterans and/or active duty military personnel who have served in war zones is of special interest to me. I have seen first hand the difficulty so many of them have reintegrating into their families and into civilian life. I find a tremendous amount of fulfillment and joy walking with them on their journey back into life.

I personally have benefited greatly from counseling. My past experiences inspired my passion to develop the skills to help others as I was once helped. Empathy is the primary pillar of the counseling profession. Thus, I believe creating a non-judgmental and confidential space, where complex emotions and fears are discussed and normalized, is the recipe for counseling success. I use a vast variety of techniques and theories to encourage clients to build self-awareness and self-advocacy. Each client is unique, therefore each counseling experience is unique. There is no singular theory or technique that works for everyone.

) Women’s issues, and LGBTQIA issues.
We all experience difficulties and crises in our lives. You may be having difficulty with a life transition, grief and loss, issues related to adverse childhood experiences, relationship issues, or anxiety and/or depression from a source you are unable to identify. You do not have to face these issues alone, and I believe that I can help guide you to the other side of whatever struggle or pain it is that you are facing. Regardless of age, we all continue to have periods of growth, struggle, and change. The best way to grow and to heal is in an atmosphere of nonjudgmental, warmth and compassion, which I believe I can provide.

Are you tired of feeling frustrated or hurt in your relationship? Do you have the same argument over and over with your partner but yet things never seem to change? You may blame each other or speak with sarcasm or defensiveness when you talk. It's easier sometimes to just avoid the hard conversations but then the problem never gets solved and you're left feeling unheard. Maybe you walk on eggshells because you can't be honest about your true feelings. Or perhaps your connection has grown stale over time and the passion just isn't there anymore. You'd love to have deeper emotional intimacy and exciting sex with the one you love.

Many people today feel invisible. My goal is to make them feel seen, heard, and understood. As a former teacher and a current school counselor, I have been in education for sixteen years and have made it my mission to help kids, teens, and adults feel safe and supported. I empower clients to work through the challenges they are facing while validating them in their experiences. They don't have to go through it alone! I earned a BA in Education from the University of Michigan and an MA in Counseling from Oakland University. I am currently working to obtain my LPC. I am accepting new clients, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
