Hi, I am Elizabeth Kickert and I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker with over 15 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults. Before starting my own private practice, Willow Tree Counseling, I worked as a school social worker in the elementary, middle and high school settings. As a result of my time spent working with youth in the schools, I have a lot of experience in helping individuals over come issues with depression, anxiety, at-risk behaviors and suicidal ideation, anger management, school and home related behavior problems, self-worth, social skills and relationship problems.

There are many approaches to addressing the state of life we find ourselves living in. I practice holistic integrative care that addresses the whole person - mind, body, spirit. Healing is a journey, in which I offer support by creating, establishing and maintaining open and direct relationships with clients. My goal is to assist in bringing balance, and restoring energy and passions through traditional therapies or energy based interventions. Hello and welcome! Here's a bit about me. I graduated with my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and then relocated to Traverse City shortly after. I also hold a masters degree in College Student Affairs from Eastern Illinois University. I currently work with older teens (18+), young adults, and adults who are struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, life transitions, stress management, LGBTQIA+ Community, trauma/PTSD, and substance use disorders.

My ideal client is inspired to be curious together and work together to identify and remove blockages that prevent a life of clarity and abundance. Whether relationship issues, parenting challenges, grief, unresolved trauma, addiction, career matters, or even the most deeply-stuck moods (anxiety, depression, etc.), we all possess within us the capacity to instinctively heal and thrive with sustained connection, vibrancy and aliveness. It’s likely a simple solution, in need of the right "non-pathological" and rigorously client-centered approach is all. My clients are empowered to reconnect with and regain trust in themselves.

My passion for providing counseling comes through the desire to make all of my clients feel heard and supported throughout their therapeutic journey and life journey. I provide therapy services for children, adolescents, adults, and families with my specialty areas including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, stress reduction, family and peer relationship challenges, eating disorders and body image issues.

I believe that all humans are innately driven to seek balance and congruence, and that when this drive is disrupted, whether it be due to emotional difficulties, relational stressors, or other life changes, we begin to suffer. It is my privilege to accompany my clients in their process of establishing balance and integration, ultimately achieving a sense of wholeness and security. I recognize that sometimes talk therapy isn't enough so I use a variety of additional therapies, including EMDR, which facilitate change by reprocessing emotionally-charged memories or experiences that often show up as physical sensations in the body.
