I specialize in students of all ages who are not working at their potential. These include individuals with Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Aspergers Syndrome, Work or School-related Anxiety, Gifted Learning Challenges, or Unconventional Learning Styles. Thirty years in public education has provided me with the experience to teach strategies to the student, and to recommend individualized accommodations and modifications to parents and educators. I also provide short-term counseling to rebuild self-esteem and motivation. I focus on the student's inherent gifts and am an advocate for the student.

I am currently only accepting new patients for testing, not therapy. An important aspect of my practice is creating a space that allows us to explore the obstacles people face and develop tools to remove them. My primary focus is neuropsychological assessment for individuals struggling with a spectrum of concerns, including ADHD, Autism, and dementia. I am certified by the ACBIS and Brain Injury Association of America as a Brain Injury Specialist and work closely with other providers to ensure that all aspects of a person's health are addressed. I have also been certified by IBCCES as an Autism Specialist.

I specialize in ADHD and Autism, complex trauma and attachment, and navigating LGBTQ identities.
Overwhelm, burnout, wanting to be your best for the people you care about, and to show up and take care of yourself too, I see you. The heavy weight of parenting, the chaos of chronic trauma, the isolation of neurodivergence, the bumpy road of queerness. These paths aren't always easy but they're ours, and we can walk them together. I have been working with kids, teens, families, and individuals working their way through understanding their identities and traumas for the past 12 years.

In todays climate it is not uncommon to have anxiety, depression, or even find yourself turning to substances that maybe you have not in the past. I recognize that not only adults, but our children are having to face mental health issues, that before may not have been on their radar. I recognize these mental health issues are on the rise and you just may need someone to talk to or process your world around you with all these stressors. I have worked in hospice for a decade, helping patients and families navigate the end of life process, as well as work with trauma patients from military experience and auto accidents.

I offer a very personalized approach to counseling. I believe in the power of a person's story and how that story has brought them to where they are at presently. I work from an integrated person-centered approach. One size/technique does NOT fit all in counseling. Moreover, I'm a believer in the therapeutic relationship being the key ingredient to effective therapy. I work with issues such as: grief, depression, anxiety, chronic-pain, panic, school issues and much more. Counseling is not the easy way through a life concern; it takes work and commitment. I promise to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for self-exploration.

I believe that clients are the expert of their life, and have the ability to determine their own solutions to their concerns when in a space that is supportive and understanding. Through therapy, clients can explore both internal and external factors that can then lead to finding solutions for their concerns.

Designed by neuroscientist and psychiatrist, Dr. Stephen Porges Ph.D., The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidenced-based auditory intervention based on the Polyvagal Theory. This intervention helps one’s nervous system to get “unstuck” from: underactivity of the nervous system (e.g. depression, inattention, impulsivity, social inhibition), overactivity of the nervous system (e.g. anxiety, emotional dysregulation, sleep issues), and complex dysregulation (e.g. sensory issues, food sensitivity, trauma, social difficulties). It is a powerful adjunct to regular therapy, and can be done at home and on your own schedule.

Autism Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
