I am most passionate about supporting women and families through the various seasons of life, specifically pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to motherhood, as well as parenting young children and adjusting to other relationship, career, or general life changes. I desire to support women and families to unpack what is holding them back from feeling happy, successful, and confident. By using a relationship-based approach, we can address issues such as anxiety, depression, postpartum adjustments, grief and loss, parent-child dynamics, and children’s behavioral concerns.

I also provide individual, parent guidance and family therapy for children, adolescents and adults.
My clinical work is focused exclusively on psychological/neuropsychological assessment and intervention for children, adolescents, and adults. A thorough assessment seeks to understand, diagnose, and classify to be sure; however, the ultimate benefit is providing a manageable and effective intervention plan that leads to relief from distress and an increased capacity to engage fully in one's life. I would be pleased to meet you for a consultation, so that we may discuss your or your child's situation and have you receive a more detailed sense of my approach.

Often people come into therapy when their efforts to connect with the people who are most important to them are being misinterpreted, leading to strained relationships. In my experience, the key to shifting this dynamic is reinforcing genuine connection and nurturing emotional safety. I have experience supporting clients in managing challenges related to pregnancy and the postpartum period, relationships, life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, parenting concerns, behavioral challenges, and parent-child interactions.

Early childhood is a dynamic and transitional time that can feel simultaneously joyous and chaotic (for both the child and the parent!). Children sometimes experience a myriad of big feelings that feel difficult to cope with - here at Rise, we aim to provide support, skills, and resources to help you and your child navigate the challenges. We have three new-to-us therapists who are accepting new clients in January. We recognize the shortage of mental health professionals for young children and parents and are so happy to fill the gap!

I love working with children and families. I want to have clear communication with guardians while also creating a safe space that allows children to express themselves with a degree of age-appropriate privacy. I work with children to identify their emotions, learn their emotional triggers, and build a toolkit of coping skills. I also work with you as guardian to build plans of action at home and provide psychoeducation that is research backed so that you feel informed and confident in your parenting. I also recognize that as your family grows and changes you may find it helpful to reach out for support for yourself.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
