I specialize in working with caregivers/parents, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers using an attachment-based approach to strengthen resiliency.
Relationships are hard. Parenting is hard. You never thought caring for your baby would leave you feeling depressed, anxious, and/or angry. You and your child could have experienced unexpected stressful events leaving you both wondering how to make sense of it. You may be adjusting to life changes as your family grows or your responsibilities changed causing you to struggle with feelings of loss, irritability, and regret. It’s hard to voice these thoughts which causes you to feel overwhelmed, alone, worried, and confused. For these reasons, it is critical to have support to start to feel connected and excited about relationships.

I work with people who want to improve their relationships and build more meaningful connections. Many of us are taught from a young age to hide our feelings, remain stoic, and always be in control. These expectations can leave us with questions about our personal identity and struggling to find meaning in our lives. For many of us, society has ingrained the belief that expressing emotions is not okay. This can lead to unresolved past wounds and lead to issues like depression, anxiety, and difficulties feeling close with others.

Are you working with a little anxiety (or really maybe alot actually) or depression? Encountered trauma? Are you in the perinatal period, a new parent and need support for postpartum anxiety, or depression or birth trauma? Looking to navigate being neurodivergent now that you've tried to navigate being an adult or parent? As a therapist I can always appreciate the vulnerability that a person can have when seeking out therapy, so it is my goal to make you feel at ease when you show up to work on any or all of these things at your pace and how I can create a safe space for you to be you and explore, well, life and it's impact on you.

I enjoy working with clients who are desiring change but are unsure how to achieve this in their life. They often have tried many different approaches but feel "stuck." I help clients who are struggling to adjust to life changes, relationship difficulties, and professional burnout, and are looking for a perspective of hope and direction. I work with individuals and couples to help increase their awareness and develop a plan how to have their needs met. Even if you feel helpless, I will help work with you to find a way forward. It would be my honor to walk these next steps together.

As a therapist, it is my goal to provide a safe and welcoming space where you will feel heard, respected and supported. I am sensitive to the fact that many people are not too eager or comfortable with opening up to a stranger about their personal history. My therapy style is warm, relaxed and caring and I practice from an integrated treatment approach, paced and tailored to fit the goals and readiness of each individual.

One of our most important relationships is the one we have with ourselves. How we talk to ourselves, treat ourselves, and view ourselves impacts our daily living and the relationships around us. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain awareness of how we relate to ourselves and others. We begin to recognize our relational patterns and understand how these patterns were developed and are maintained. Through this self-understanding, we can begin to learn new ways of being with ourselves and others.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
