I know life does not always go as planned. Sometimes we need to talk to someone. When we need help with our physical bodies, we see a medical doctor. When our mind and heart hurt and we need help untangling our thoughts and feelings, we find a therapist. I am here with you as we find sources of pain, learn skills to help, and build a life worth living.

At times, life likes to throw us curve balls, and with these curve balls come challenges. My goal is to help you learn and identify safe ways to cope with these stresses and to be a better supporter of yourself all while identifying your own strengths. There will be times when we are challenged more than others and may feel like the world is closing in; and in these times, finding support can be beneficial to your own wellbeing. I encourage the sometimes bumpy road while navigating because that is truly the best way for us to learn and grow.

I approach counseling with clients like a door. Not every locked door can be unlocked with the same key. Different locked doors require different keys to open. What works for one client, may not work for another. This means I work with many different approaches. From Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalytic, to Constructionist. However, my main counseling approach, foundation, is Humanistic, Person Centered. This focuses on the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client. As a counselor my goal will be to build the relationship with my clients by providing an empathic understanding of my client’s point of view.

I know from my own experiences as well as a career dedicated to helping children, adults, and families, that often putting yourself first and asking for some help can bring up feelings of guilt, shame, and fear to name a few. Understanding and knowing that you are your own self with needs, wants and worth; that you deserve to heal, remember who you are and find more joy- these concepts are available to you. You matter, your story matters and I can offer a safe space for you to be your vulnerable and authentic self.

Are you looking for assistance with managing stress, relationships, grief, parenting, anxiety, trauma and/or depression? Or, are you interested in help with weight loss, adjustment to illness, or stopping smoking? I am a board certified Health Psychologist specializing in short-term counseling (usually 6-10 visits but could be more/less). I believe that people benefit more from short spurts of counseling over a lifetime (as needed) rather than meeting regularly for long periods of time. I give you the skills. You live life and return as needed. I offer individual, couples, and family therapy.
