Have you experienced Narcissistic Abuse yourself? As a survivor of Narcissistic Abuse myself, I get the horror you are living through right now. One day the guy is the “man of your dreams”, the next, he’s morphed into this lying, cheating, manipulative, demeaning man that you no longer even recognize. You are feeling so down, depressed and hopeless that you struggle to even get out of bed in the morning. When you do get out of bed, you wonder what is even the point of living a life like this. You dread another day of walking on eggshells, rage, being told you're ugly, a terrible mom, and called all sorts of disrespectful names.

Welcome! I specialize in working with adult children of (and/or partners to) narcissists and the emotionally immature/abusive/unavailable. My clients say they’re relieved to have found a therapist who "gets" them. I am ready to "get" and care for you, too. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-worth, self-doubt/blame, shame, guilt, a sense of obligation? Are you an expert "people pleaser" because you had to be? Did you receive attention, love, acceptance based on certain conditions? Did you experience controlling behavior and/or inconsistency/instability that felt unsafe? Is it hard to advocate for yourself? I get it.

Does that voice in your head keep you up at night? Do you ever replay the events of the day, wondering what you could have done, should have done, differently? At times, it may seem impossible to do it all and you may feel helpless to slow down the train. Underneath it all, you just want some balance, to be more present and enjoy the moments life has to offer. Yet no matter what you do, you can’t seem to find the joy and happiness that others appear to have. You really just want to know that everything is going to be okay.

You’re defeated, broken, and feeling trapped in your past. Life has not been easy for you and along the way you seem to have lost who you are. The trauma you have experienced is affecting you daily, making you feel helpless. Unable to love yourself you struggle to set and maintain boundaries. The pressure to please others is exhausting and you can't seem to find balance or support in your life. Your history of abuse triggers you to impulsively react- rather than logically respond during difficult situations. You’re looking for guidance to process through all the baggage, uncertainty, and stress.

Individuals seeking a deeper understanding of their lives, relationships, careers, and/or identities are well-matched to my approach to therapy. Do you feel stuck and unable to move forward? Is it hard to let go of experiences from your past? Often unresolved issues from the past can interfere with fully enjoying the present moment. If you've experienced trauma, the frightening/overwhelming experience can resurface months or years later, seemingly "out of the blue" and cause symptoms which make it nearly impossible to feel in control of life. Working together in psychotherapy, you will learn strategies to calm your anxiety, reduce stress and be back in the driver's seat of life.

We surround each person on a continuous basis, responsive to their ever evolving needs. Psych Assets leads the way by investing each day in life’s most important asset: PEOPLE. We believe in the power of the human mind to transform viewpoints and vision into new insights, attitudes, and behaviors. We believe that doing ‘what is right’ and ‘what is fair’ may feel hard at times but these are the ideals we follow with each connecting encounter. We value all human life, and in doing so we believe in the richness of cultures, human diversity and inclusion. We believe that transformation and change are always possible.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
