My Clinical Psychology private practice allows for maximum individual attention and confidentiality. Since 1988, I have specialized in treating trauma conditions resulting from war, auto, workplace, violence and residuals of childhood abuse. Related conditions include depression, anxiety, physical pain, relationship difficulties, addictions and cognitive disorders. As a result of auto and occupational injuries, many patients/clients suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries; and they can greatly benefit from my individual and group psychotherapy. I am a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist so some of my work involves cases in litigation including evaluations, testimony and expert witness services.

I have worked in mental health and substance abuse for the last 17 years. In mental health, I have worked as an ACT coordinator and case manager for people suffering with a chronic mental illness. I was the Director of Visions Clubhouse in Pontiac for 4 years. I opened Pontiac Children Services. We serviced teenage boys that were wards of the state and helped them re-integrate back to school, social groups, and employment. I also worked in the psychiatric hospital in Mt. Clemens for 10 years as a social worker and therapist.

Lets be honest, the world is going to Hell in a handbasket, and if that includes your world, I can help you. I am a licensed master social worker, but I fancy myself a psychologist at heart. This unites the best of the two disciplines as social work focuses on fair and ethical treatment for all hu manity, while psychology emphasizes behavioral, psychoanalytical skills. Both of which I confidently uphold, and define my career path by. I have experience with both group and individual therapy relating to anger management, opioids, cognitive behavioral therapy, family dynamics, 12 steps, and many others.

Inspiring others to believe, and sometimes believe again," is my personal mission. I have had extensive experience working with couples, men, and adolescent boys, helping people find resolution with depression, anger, anxiety, PTSD, Grief and Loss, and trauma. I am especially interested in helping people enrich their marriages, relationships, achieve fulfillment, and grow personally to value themselves and others. Christian principles guide my counseling, however, I respect, value, and honor my clients’ individuality, faith practices, and growth aspirations. "Nothing changes until I do." I do offer telehealth.

I understand that in life sometimes we as hu mans get stuck and that's okay.
Change may not be easy, however, you don't have to take part in that journey alone. Starting therapy can be hard, yet the results could be life changing. I may be of help If your child is a preteen struggling with anxiety, depression, self-harm, or behavioral issues, you are a parent wanting more support, you are an adult struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, a phobia, insomnia, and more.

My experience and training with the cis and LGBTQ+ community has made me uniquely qualified to assist you in making life better, by finding resolutions and resources to better equip you to manage any of your difficulties or concerns.
If you are struggling with mental health, situational or adjustment concerns and have not been able to manage without assistance from a professional like me, it is time to reach out. Why are you making life harder? My theory is that we most often already have the solutions to our problems within us, but may need an objective person (like a therapist) to identify how our own strengths can be used as a vehicle to resolution.

You find yourself feeling on edge more often than not. There’s a general sense of feeling trapped - trapped in a situation, stuck in time, or frozen by a sense of inactivity. This uneasiness may leave you feeling numb, irritable, or disconnected. You feel detached from others or yourself, and you struggle to find release from that internal tension. Something feels like it’s holding you back, and you cannot feel at ease in your body.

When facing challenges, it is difficult to make sense of what it is going on around you. These challenges may impact your relationships with your friends or family, affect your career, or even alter the way you view yourself. During these times, it is important to understand how a therapist can assist you.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
