Much of our life-functioning happens unconsciously; some responses or patterns that we develop and learn along the way can cease to continue meeting our needs - so what do we do then? While there are many things outside of our control in life, there are choices we can learn (and unlearn) to make that help find a new way of being that is more aligned with the life you want to live. Your unique context, identities, and worldviews are core to our co-created goals for your counseling. I enjoy working with folks of all genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, socioeconomic status, and communities.

I am a fully-licensed Clinical Psychologist and a member of the American Psychological Association with over 25 years of experience in my field. For the majority of these years, I worked out of my private-practice office in Midland, MI where I provided a wide range of mental health services to individuals diverse in age, as well as, ethnicity and lifestyle. I offered in-person services until my spouse & I relocated to Northern MI in 2022, necessitating a transition to my current, virtual-only practice in order to cont. serving my existing clients. I love what I do and reconsider it a privilege to be entrusted with my clients' care

Life is a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs and unexpected turns that catch you by surprise. You may not know what comes next no matter how much you prepare, but having someone in your corner can make whatever life throws at you that much more manageable. My goal as a counselor is to ride the rollercoaster beside you so that you can have the best outcome possible. I am currently working towards certification as an eating disorder specialist, yet I also work with a wide range of clients and symptoms. Life gets messy, and you may feel as though you’ve lost parts of yourself along the way. While you may appear as though you have it “all together,” inside you are filled with anxiety, discontentment, and feelings that you’re not enough. You may feel restless and burnt out from the constant internal pressure to stay busy, please others, achieve, or change your body. You feel at constant war with your mind and your body, leaving you feeling disconnected from your needs, your relationships, and your life. You may sense that the ways in which you’ve tried to control these feelings isn't working, but you're not sure how to move forward.

To me, spirit is about what is inside you regardless of your circumstances. My goal for providing therapy is teaching people how to function within how their lives actually are; good or bad, struggle or peace, history of trauma or not. Faith is a crucial part of it. In Acts 27 Paul is on a boat being tossed by a terrible storm. He tells the crew we should not have sailed BUT NOW we can manage the storm. In the Buddhist Eight Fold path Right Judgment is make choices based on how things truly are and not driven by emotion. The storm teaches us things and makes us stronger.

Are you experiencing a difficult time moving forward? My objective in therapy is to validate your experience as an individual, couple or family. Through practical learnings and education, I will work alongside you to provide hope and help toward healing.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
