Top Ten Reasons For Therapy: 10) It's good to talk to someone who accepts you unconditionally. 9) It's cheaper than hitting bottom. 8) It can prevent bad situations from getting worse. 7) It helps correct self-defeating behaviors. 6) It teaches assertiveness, which raises self-esteem. 5)It teaches new ways of thinking. 4) It provides relief. 3)It's not as sappy as it looks on TV. 2) Knowledge is power; knowing the reasons for what bothers you gives you power to change. AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON TO GO TO THERAPY: You deserve to like yourself and your life!

Trauma lives in all of us. We all carry our histories. Trauma is in our lived experiences, it is not about the traumatic event, rather about how it impacts us. Our perception of self, the aftermath on our nervous system & how it disconnects us from ourselves and others. Our brains have natural healing mechanisms. We can neurologically rewire & relearn; creating new, less destructive circuitry within the brain. Don't let your struggle become your identity. Become empowered to overcome life's toughest challenges!

Has your life been feeling overwhelming or discouraging? Maybe you've been feeling sad or pulled in too many directions. You might experience fear that seems to bubble up from nowhere. Maybe you're dealing with addiction or someone you love is using drugs or alcohol. You probably don't want to tell people close to you that you are struggling. These experiences can leave you feeling alone, scared and misunderstood.

I treat a broad age range of clients (1 to 100). I take a developmental and psychodynamic approach which examines early life experiences that affect one's development and current problems. As a marriage and family therapist, I treat both individuals and families, closely examining relationship challenges and providing ways to resolve them between parents and children, siblings, adult partners, and friends. I also specialize in assessment and treatment of trauma, abuse, dissociation, and PTSD. I have a dual approach of treating the source of one's problems and managing current difficulties.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
