Anxiety and depression. On the surface, things may look in control. But stressors and responsibilities keep stacking up and you are overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. You've been needing balance, peace, and relief for a while now.

"Freedom is nothing else than a chance to be better." As people we sometimes allow our fears, current circumstances and our faulty thinking to keep us from discovering the freedom to be the person we are intended to be.

Sometimes, a good cry is just what you need to release all the hurt you have built up inside! People come to counseling because they want something to be different in their lives. They may want to change their personal or family situation, solve a particular problem, or simply bring a healthier balance to their lives. The counseling process can be fun and exciting. It can also, at times, be very challenging, difficult, and even painful. However, the goal will always be to bring about some positive change and meaningful outcomes!

Feelings of depression, stress, anxiety, hopelessness or struggling with adjusting to new circumstances in our lives is normal. There are times when we are able to navigate on our own, however, that may not always be the case. Working with a therapist is an investment in yourself. Coming to therapy is a big step, however it can be a life altering step. I understand and have experienced the emotional challenges life has to offer. In working together, we will cultivate growth by understanding the obstacles that you face and develop solutions that can help you gain control of your life and achieve your goals.

I am well-versed in the insidious nature of emotional abuse and the dark triad.
My approach to therapy is depth-oriented. While I do not believe that insight in and of itself is curative, I do believe it’s a necessary first step in the healing process. Once we gain insight into the roots of our problems, we can begin to respond intentionally when in a state of emotional flashback rather than automatically reacting with fight, flight, freeze or fawn. I believe in the power of truly feeling through our emotions and in creating a safe space for my clients to do just that. I believe the therapeutic alliance should be one that fosters self-discovery and healing in a safe, nonjudgmental, empathic environment.

I have worked extensively to support others through severe anxiety, complex trauma, domestic abuse, depression, and ADHD challenges.
Simply put - life is HARD. Struggling with mental health, difficult life transitions, and feeling "stuck," are part of the human experience. Some of us are neurodiverse. Some of us have had to withstand more trauma than anyone should ever have to. Some of us are natural helpers, that struggle to care for ourselves well. Some of us don't know what's wrong, but we know that there must be more to life. I provide a nonjudgemental space for clients to identify their goals, learn about mental health, practice coping skills, and journey toward the happiest and healthiest version of themselves.

Areas of treatment competency: anxiety, depression, parenting support, surviving childhood sexual abuse/assault, surviving adult domestic violence and/or abuse, alcohol/drug abuse and addiction/family support, co-dependency, mood disorder, impulse-control, post-partum issues and PTSD.
During my clinical experience as a therapist I have had the opportunity to work with many different populations of people, often walking alongside them while experiencing a range of life circumstances. People experiencing the lowest of lows while others having found peace in forgiveness of the past. One of the most impressive characteristics that many of the brave people I have met share is that of perseverance. My desire is to encourage perseverance in the face of difficulty which fosters wisdom and maturity within our therapeutic relationship, while gathering new and more sustainable coping skills for continued stability.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
