I believe in being fully attentive and engaged in the therapy process. I bring nearly 40 years of experience conscientiously doing my own work in the hopes of offering that wisdom to my clients. In therapy, you may find me challenging, but my focus is always on your goals. My real skill is in facilitating a greater emotional and psychological understanding that leads to change.

My practice is based on the belief that we all have the potential for growth, and we have the ability to create meaning and happiness in our lives. I am a licensed social worker who has been in private practice for over twenty years. I have seen that growth and positive change can occur in therapy, and I offer a safe and supportive setting where new insights and understanding can be gained. That first step, making the contact with a therapist, can be the hardest step, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.

I am a psychologist with nearly forty years' experience as a therapist. Trained as a general practitioner in rural mental health, I see people with a wide range of issues -- anxiety, depression, fears, phobias, procrastination, underachievement, chronic pain, anger management, attention disorders, and frustration in close relationships. If you decide to come in, the first appointment will focus on clarifying your goals and thinking about ways to move toward them. You are invited to a safe, respectful, supportive place where we can understand your situation and work together to improve it.

We all feel a little lost sometimes, the stress life throws at us can be overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and past trauma can feel like they are weighing you down, holding you back from living your life. We work with you to find a path through these struggles and achieve whatever goals or life changes you are aiming for. Therapy can seem intimidating, but we aim to make it a personable, positive experience.

Many families come to therapy feeling like they have tried everything and are lost as to helping their child manage their emotions and behaviors. This is especially true for caregivers of children who have been adopted or in the child welfare system. I work with caregivers to understand their children's behaviors through a developmentally appropriate framework and discuss tangible ways to create positive change in family dynamics. Together, I work with children and caregivers to increase secure attachment, bonding, and mutual enjoyment.

Let’s face it: friends and family often mean well, but they can be part of the problem. When you find yourself easily angered and misunderstood by others, or when worries cloud your mind, and sleeping well or eating healthy becomes too challenging, those are signs that help is needed. Other signs: high anxiety; not having enough energy to get through the day; feeling discouraged and having doubts about “the point of it all". Although rewarding, relationships are hard to navigate. We put our hearts and souls into trying to fix problems, only to feel stuck in that exhausting cycle of never-ending arguments, and nothing changes.

A catalyst may be a person or a thing that precipitates a change. When you see the change, you can be the change! As a licensed clinical social worker I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, groups and families in the areas of trauma and resilience, anxiety, depression, as well as grief and loss. As a member of the gay community, a presenter and writer in this field, I have worked with folks that are moving toward being fully integrated in their lives. Matching what we know about our inner selves with our outer selves and celebrating ourselves within our communities, may require some assistance along the way.
