Caya Counseling serves adults and children with a wide range of concerns including, PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, trauma, stress, grief/loss, infant mental health issues, attachment work, and post adoption.
Everyone deserves a sense of control over their lives. When terrible things happen it can feel like the wind has been knocked out of you. The world feels unsafe. Feelings of deep sadness, fear, shame and a rawness seem to linger. Many people feel as though they are damaged goods and wonder if they will ever be themselves again, or if they will ever be happy again. Imagine what it will be like when you have more good days then bad, when you feel the laughter, when you hear your child start to sing again. In a relaxed, safe environment you will receive support, encouragement, and the skills you need to thrive not just survive.

I also set aside space in my practice for ADHD evaluations, immigration evaluations, and letters of support for gender affirming surgery/care.
Life is hard! Pause for a moment and give yourself credit for taking this brave, difficult step. You're respecting your struggles AND looking for constructive ways to address them. I use a collaborative and exploratory (rather than expert) model to help you develop/access resources to navigate life's difficulties. I use approaches supported by research while recognizing the limits of evidence-based therapies which often need to be adapted, abandoned, or incorporated with other practices to meet a person's realities, needs, and strengths. I strive to create a safe supportive relationship and deeply value feedback and dialogue.

However, my training throughout my doctoral program focused on ADHD evaluations and treating anxiety, as well as High Conflict Divorce, Divorce Collaboration, and Marriage Therapy.
Although I spend a lot of time conducting psychological assessments, I truly enjoy the time I get to spend as a therapist walking through life with my clients. At one point in time or another, all of us struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, big-emotions and overall ineffectiveness in our life. In therapy, we not only spend time discussing ongoing issues and current difficulties, but we also focus on themes in our lives and the ways that our thinking patterns can inhibit our ability to create the unique life that we want to live.

I have experience treating clients with addiction issues, anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, as well as other mental health concerns.
I believe that every person who is seeking therapy has already taken the first step toward positive change. This is often the most difficult step of the healing process. My first goal is to listen well and to seek to understand you. While my training includes many therapeutic approaches informed by research, I see therapy most of all as a process that unfolds with building a genuine relationship. I seek to find strengths within each person and assist them in building upon those strengths within therapy.

I specialize in Child Abuse and Neglect but also work with trauma, depression, anxiety, adult survivors of abuse, OCD, personality disorders, ADD/ ADHD, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, grief and loss, personal growth, major life transitions and many other diagnoses.
I work with adults, adolescents, couples, families, and children. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches uniquely catered to each client and based on a treatment plan that we develop together. I do not believe that each therapist is automatically the best person for every client that walks through their door, but that the client needs to "click" with the therapist they work with so they have room to do the work they need to do. The possibility for change is powerful and the therapeutic process is often a catalyst and a supportive environment for change.

I am passionate about the work I do with those who struggle with family or relationship conflict, parenting, pregnancy/postpartum, anxiety, boundary setting, ADHD.
Therapy is a great way to show yourself love and compassion. I believe change and growth in therapy can happen from looking inward, getting curious, and learning to recognize patterns. Change can be scary, uncertain, and intimidating. It can also be empowering and grow confidence! We aren’t meant to go through it alone and I'd love to walk along side you through it. My goal as a therapist is to provide a trusting space that allows you to feel comfortable leaning into vulnerability, being your authentic self and building confidence to take steps towards change and growth.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
