Besides a strong focus on client centered healing, I've received specific trainings in depression, anxiety, eating disorders and sport psychology.
Is life a little overwhelming right now? You deserve to be heard in a non-judgmental environment regardless of your life journey and the issues that you're currently facing. Despite what challenge it is that you're experiencing, there is a road map to improving your life satisfaction. Counseling can provide a space for each individual to self-navigate current life situations. You'll also learn coping skills for when future stressors arise. I offer Christian counseling as an option for those interested but I love working with people from all walks of life.

We find ourselves traveling down the same roads all the time, same route to work, school, and even family and friends' houses. Sometimes we become so used to the way we are living that change is often difficult to achieve. I believe this is because we are stuck in ways of thinking because we have done it for as long as we can remember. "That's just the way I am." If you are looking to find a new way of doing things because you are unsatisfied or stuck in a rut, I would love to help you navigate change.

Life can throw us some curve balls. We can have extended stress and trauma that leads to depression and anxiety. There is treatment available to assist with these issues. Therapy can also relieve and possibly eliminate some somatic issues that include; chronic pain, migraines, and fatigue that often accompanies stress. Those who also suffer from traumatic injuries who now have chronic pain or phantom pain could benefit from EMDR therapy. First Responders and those in helping professions such as Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, and Therapists (To name just a few) can experience stress from being on the job. There is hope and healing!

We all try our best to stay balanced. We take the little hits life throws our way, try to manage and overcome. Sex, love, money, communication, who we are and what we feel, that "devil on our shoulder" that sometimes gets a bigger say than we'd like... We fight to stay ahead, but somehow the little things pile up into big things. We try to find ways to cope. But when we stay overwhelmed, we can become used to those harmful coping mechanisms. What used to feel temporary turns permanent, and constant struggle becomes the "new normal." We want to find our way through it, but we can't seem to do it alone, and aren't sure where to go.

I always knew that in some capacity, I wanted to work in a profession that would allow me to help people. As a young adult, I realized that counseling would be an amazing way for me to work with people as they face difficulties in life. I attended Grand Valley State University where I received my Bachelor's degree in psychology and later the University of Phoenix where I received my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling.

I believe people are relational-beings, meaning, we develop and live our lives in relationships with others. When these relationships become distressed, it can lead to a multitude of feelings, such as depression, stress, anxiety and an overall feeling of uneasiness. These are the times when a person may need some guidance and help accessing their personal resources to find more balance in those relationships and in life in general.

Life can be complicated. These complications know no economic, age, sex, religious, or racial boundary. As a practitioner working with individuals to empower them is my passion and privilege. If you are currently working to navigate through a difficult time we can work together to set goals, realize and regain your strengths to develop a long-term plan for success. There are times when everyone needs to strengthen his or her coping skills, see the situation from another view, or simply say it aloud. There are also times when the work that needs to be done is very serious. And deep. And difficult.

The clients that I have had the opportunity to work with are among the bravest people I have met. It is that courage that leads people to reach out and ask for help with what they are unable to do themselves. I am humbled to be a part of that process. Using a combination of cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness, empathy and levity, we can work through issues of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders of any kind.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.
What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.
What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.
What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.
How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
