I am currently accepting new clients. Through therapy we can break troubling patterns of thoughts and behaviors, move toward more fulfilling relationships, increase our capacity to cope with suffering, and identify and draw upon internal resources and strengths in order to live life in full. I believe that a strong, trusting, empathic, and collaborative alliance is at the core of a successful therapeutic experience and that this relationship is the key to effective treatment.

I am an AASECT-certified Sex Therapist and a Licensed Social Worker able to work with clients from anywhere in the State of Michigan. I provide a safe space to explore where you came from, who you are now, and who you want to be in this world, alongside focusing on hard truths and circumstances. Clients who work with me will gain knowledge of the working relationship within themselves and the systems we may or may not choose in life.

I am a psychologist working with everyday people with everyday struggles. My philosophy is guided by my unwavering belief in people's ability to achieve their greatest potential & become their true authentic self. I coach people who are feeling down, overwhelmed, anxious, conflicted, coping with change and transitions, making decisions, or struggling with marital or relationship challenges. While many people can manage their problems on their own, the therapeutic process often enables them to reach their goals and decrease symptoms and stress more quickly.

I believe that when people seek counseling it is because they want to make a change in their lives, improve a life situation, make a decision, solve a problem or have greater understanding and insight to their lives. Counseling is a trusting partnership between client and counselor. A process of looking at and integrating thoughts, feelings and actions in a safe environment. It is not about telling you how or when to change, but rather finding what works best for you. Effective counseling requires a commitment of time, energy, and active participation by both client and counselor.

I have over 30 years of counseling and case management experience, helping clients with a variety of concerns: depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, codependency, boundaries, self-esteem, life adjustments, grief/loss, work-related concerns, substance use disorders, health issues, caregiver stress, etc. I can assist someone with short-term solution focused counseling, or more chronic concerns such as abuse and trauma. I also offer completion of the Substance Use Evaluation for Driver License Appeal in Michigan. I am also Board Certified Case Manager, as my "day job" is a CM in medical family practice.

It is my privilege and pleasure to work with adults in navigating life's challenges. Changes in relationships, family status, income, job status, children at home, health and more, create special challenges. It can really help to speak with a sympathetic, caring counselor who has been through it all. I specialize in helping clients work through empty nest transitions.

Cathi has many years of experience providing care to both children and adults, including families and couples. She finds it most helpful to build trusting relationships through a supportive, non-judgmental client centered approach to help clients achieve their therapeutic goals. Cathi utilizes a variety of evidence based therapeutic approaches, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Psychoeducation to assist clients through the therapeutic process.

I conceptualize people's lives as being like a recipe. If you (or I) put the ingredients into the bowl, we get a predictable final product- either good, bad or mixed. If you work with me we will figure out the good and the bad ingredients of your recipe. Some ingredients are beyond your control, some are not. We will then figure out how you can keep the bad ingredients out and the good ingredients in your life. What do you want your life to look like? Carol has treated anxiety, depression, trauma related disorders, bi-polar disorder, adjustment disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders and grief. She has worked with clients on relationship challenges, parenting education, and behavior management issues.
