It’s easy to feel hopeless and overwhelmed when everyday is marked by constant worry. It can seem like no matter what new trick you read about you can’t kick the worry to the curb. It’s been months, maybe even years, and the burden of it feels too much to carry. You worry about friendships, worst cast scenarios, having a panic attack in public and you try to look like you have it all together. It's likely that everyone believes that you do have it all together. You have gotten pretty good at wearing that mask over the years, but you're tired of playing that role. Freedom from the cycle of anxiety is possible.

Are you feeling stuck, angry, anxious, or finding little pleasure in life? Are you having trouble "getting over it"? Feeling unsatisfied or frustrated in your relationships? There is hope. Hurts can be healed, past or present. While I work with many different issues, I specialize in working with people with trauma, those who are grieving or struggling with any kind of loss, couples and relationship issues, and compassion fatigue for those who care for others. While therapy is not easy, I believe change and healing are possible, regardless of your circumstances, hurts, or issues you are facing.

Women who see me are hoping to find peace and quiet the noise in their heads.
As far as anyone knows you are successful, intelligent, and hard-working. But underneath that surface is someone who struggles with fears, obsessions, compulsions, phobias, nervous feelings, and constant worries. Anxiety has a physical effect on your body and can cause muscle tension, stomach aches, and headaches. My clients have anxiety and OCD. They spend lots of time organizing, cleaning, checking, washing their hands, and making sure things feel just right. Ladies who see me often have a past history of traumatic experiences.

I believe that every human being truly has their own answers within themselves. My job is to come alongside you and help you discover yours. The pain of the past forms a belief about our identity for today. It is this skewed perception of self that actually keeps us at odds with our choices about our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Using different techniques, such as CBT, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, I help you process emotions, and identify limiting beliefs that have created roadblocks in your life. We work together to heal from pain, harness the power of true self-acceptance, and create peace and confidence.

Life can be so dang challenging. Sometimes we need a safe place to process what has and is happening in our lives. I work with individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, interpersonal difficulties, grief and trauma. Our kids lives can be just as challenging as ours. Those big emotions and behaviors are an outward expression of inner turmoil. Working with kids and teenagers is a big passion of mine.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
