Anxiety, depression, addiction, neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, OCD), and traumatic experiences can all take away a person’s voice, understandability, and respect, especially during adolescence and adulthood. There are pieces to their story which a person can either block out, ignore, or fear. The problem comes when these pieces eat away at the person’s emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and/or vocational health. Building resilience involves getting that voice back, feeling understood, and respected in an inclusive environment.

I specialize in Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Substance Use Disorders, and Trauma related therapy.
Every client comes from a different background, with different experiences, needs, thoughts, and expectations. With this in mind, my goal is to listen, discuss, and try to understand my clients, where they are coming from, who they are, and why they need me. Together with my clients, we work to identify goals that the client feels are significant and important, and then develop plans on how to achieve these goals in reasonable, managable, and most importantly, healthy steps.

You found yourself struggling to cope with intense feelings of depression, anxiety, and past trauma. You find that you no longer are doing the things you enjoy and don’t even recognize yourself anymore when you look in the mirror. You feel hopeless and trapped in this cycle of avoiding these feelings. You wonder if things will ever change. Therapy can help provide some hope. I believe change and healing happen through support, self-discovery, challenging negative thoughts, and creating new habits and routines.

I have experience working in various settings with different populations, problems, and symptoms including; anxiety, depression, trauma, marital/couples issues, family conflict, bipolar disorder, BPD, domestic abuse, and substance use.
I believe big changes happen as a result of taking small, needed steps. Creating space allows for someone to become "unstuck" from old beliefs, patterns, behaviors, and ways of thinking which are harmful and no longer useful. I use a primarily solution-focused approach and a systemic lens while working with my clients. Life is constantly moving and changing and it is important, on a journey towards growth and healing, that a person/couple/family feel supported and equipped to handle life's challenges. Whatever problems, symptoms, or issues are presented, I work to move my clients forward in a positive and meaningful direction.

I specialize in the areas of addiction, anxiety, depression, co-occurring disorders, anger, self-destructive thought/behavioral issues, suicidal ideations, codependency, relationship issues, and more.
I understand what it is like to struggle and to wonder if the problems you are facing can ever be overcome – and I know, first-hand, that “Yes they can!” Maybe you’ve tried therapy before and nothing really changed, or you’re not really sure what change would even look like. I have found that working in individual counseling, we can start to understand why we react and think the way we do; it can be from past trauma or from an accumulation of life events, but I truly believe when provided a nonjudgmental, understanding, and safe place, it is very possible to defeat these destructive thought patterns and behaviors we’ve obtained.

When individuals are struggling with their mental health, substance use, or other life stresses they might not always know where to go for help. My job as a therapist is to provide you with a safe space where you can separate these ongoing challenges, feel less overwhelmed, and take control of your life. Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
