It can be difficult to accept that your life has not followed the path you expected. Maybe you are experiencing the loss of a loved one, undergoing a life transition, or working to process traumatic experiences. Addressing these challenges may leave you feeling vulnerable and afraid. Reaching out for help can feel overwhelming. You are worthy of healing; you do not need to face these hardships alone.

I work with individuals including teens, adults and older adults who have concerns regarding depression, anxiety, grief/ loss, self acceptance, parenting challenges, relationship issues, and substance use.
There’s nothing more important to the therapeutic process than establishing a strong relationship between counselor and client. Through a collaborative effort, I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental space where clients of any and all backgrounds feel comfortable to tell their stories, and I provide supportive acceptance in a positive environment. Through the therapeutic process I use a variety of modalities, which allow for gentle directive and reflective approaches designed to empower clients, leading to the promotion of growth and healing.

Often, our past experiences leave us wounded. The story that we tell ourselves becomes permeated with negative thoughts, low self-worth, and shame. As these feelings manifest, we become anxious and depressed. We might experience isolation, loneliness, and a loss of connection to others and to ourselves. Therapy can help us discover perspectives that create a new narrative, one in which we have different ways to manage our emotions and lead a more enjoyable life.

Art can offer new perspectives and help a person work through life transitions, grief, anxiety, trauma, and pain.
As we move through life, there are times when support and gentle guidance helps us to continue forward, heal, and discover meaning. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere that is built on mutual respect and acceptance as I journey alongside my clients. I hope to establish a space that is accepting of all life experiences and open to the spectrum of emotion and personal expression. I take an eclectic approach that includes talk, art, and mindfulness practice, depending on your needs and comfort level. Together, we’ll decide on a modality that could help you learn more about yourself and begin to make changes.

Happiness can be difficult to achieve. Many times, we are in situations in which we need to make changes in our lives to promote mental wellness. Making changes in our lives can feel difficult and complicated. We can feel stuck at certain times of our lives, realizing we've been avoiding chronic problems, or needing to make changes in relationships. If we don't use these opportunities for self reflection and change, we can find ourselves with increased depression and anxiety. I really like to work with clients that are working through their stuck points and help them make changes to improve their quality of life.

The only constant thing in life is change, and I want to help you navigate through the process. I am a highly empathic and affirming counselor whose first goal is to create an environment safe enough for my clients to be authentically seen without judgment. Therapy is about transformation; having someone to guide you through such a process can make all the difference. I have found that most people possess the necessary tools to improve their life and simply need someone who highlights them.

It's normal to have problems. It's normal for relationships to have conflict. It's normal to feel nervous on occasion. It's normal to fall into a low mood now and then. But sometimes these normal things get out of hand. And sometimes you have to live through something that isn't normal, something unexpected. In times like that, it's useful to have somebody to talk to.

Everything has patterns; the way we think, behave and feel. Most of us developed these in childhood and continue them throughout our lives. Sometimes they are helpful and sometimes they cause us suffering and pain. Learning to identify these patterns and distinguish which are healthy and unhealthy can help to build a more enriching and engaging life. I focus on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory and Mindfulness to help client's process through their patterns, emotions and relationships in a safe and relaxed environment. Change can only happen when there is trust and respect.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
