Some of the techniques that I’ve been trained include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Play Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy.
I currently specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults. As a native Spanish speaker, I am also able to provide clients with bilingual counseling sessions. This allows me to bridge the gap between many individuals who struggle with finding the appropriate services due to a language barrier. Additionally, during my career I’ve worked with clients to treat a variety of disorders including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and depressive disorders. I have additionally worked with clients facing varying challenges including self-harm, suicidal ideation, and trauma

I specialize in evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies & am trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I once heard that in order to live a fulfilling life you need to live it fully everyday. Living fully can look different from day to day. Some days living fully may bring joy, peace, excitement, & love as you form new relationships, pursue your passions, & discover more about yourself. Yet other days living fully may bring frustration, sorrow, fear, and pain as you face loss, trauma, and uncertainty. In either of these cases, living fully is done in relationship and living alongside another can bring healing beyond belief. I strive to be that ally, to walk alongside others as they experience the joys & challenges of living fully.

I have extensive experience in trauma treatment (including TFCBT and EMDR) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Therapy is an invitation to begin where you are, just as you are. My first goal is to listen well and to seek to understand you. While my training includes many therapeutic approaches informed by research, I see therapy most of all as a creative process that unfolds within a genuine relationship. I believe that good therapy is flexible and responsive - it can be gentle and compassionate, serious and tough, and sometimes even very funny.

Although I spend a lot of time conducting psychological assessments, I truly enjoy the time I get to spend as a therapist walking through life with my clients. At one point in time or another, all of us struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, big-emotions and overall ineffectiveness in our life. In therapy, we not only spend time discussing ongoing issues and current difficulties, but we also focus on themes in our lives and the ways that our thinking patterns can inhibit our ability to create the unique life that we want to live.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
