I enjoy working with adults who are experiencing high levels of anxiety and panic, along with working to uncover connections between past trauma and current life struggles. Unfortunately, I do not see clients under the age of 18. Active participation is a crucial aspect of therapy and a willingness to change and learn from past experiences is also helpful in making the improvements you want in life. We strive for good days, but it's okay if bad ones happen every now and then. The reality is, life can be hard. Sometimes we just need a nudge in the right direction and an objective viewpoint to help us find our way.

In a nonjudgmental manner, I take a person-centered approach to sessions from the initial meeting, goal setting and throughout sessions thereafter. The relationship we will build will be the foundation of the work we do! I have been a licensed clinical social worker for 25 years working with clients of all ages. In the past few years, I have focused on trauma work, anxiety disorders and OCD. I look forward to working with you as you set your wellness goals!

Life is filled with challenges, especially when navigating relationships, whether int erpersonal or with systems like CMH, schools, CPS, or healthcare. I specialize in couples and family counseling. With more than 25 years of experience supporting families advocating for their children or adult children with autism, ADHD, or developmental and mental health challenges, These challenges can lead to institutional trauma when system breakdowns cause harm or distress. Such circumstances can drain emotional resources, leaving one feeling powerless and overwhelmed. If this sounds familiar, I am here to help.

Clinically, I have worked in the Community Mental Health system and in a private practice prior to opening my own private practice. I am trained in 10+ evidenced-based practices like Cognitive Behavior therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy, used in treating PTSD, the Nurturing Parent Program (NPP), and Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). My passion is to help others to live life as the best version of themselves, regardless of their age or presenting issues. I believe that each of us is just one person away from reaching that goal of a happy life, and if I can be that for you then it is a win for us both.

A wise philosopher once said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Small changes, even increasing self-awareness, can collect and snowball into life-changing transformations. These changes and transformations currently may be hard to imagine or fully believe, and we can still choose to bravely take that step. Whatever length your journey, I offer support along the road and a safe space for exploration, expression, insight, and transformation.

You have been sitting with your thoughts and seem to recycle your memories. You are excellent at suppressing your hurt and stay busy with work and life as a distraction. You no longer connect with others the way you used to and keep friends and family at a distance. The Pandemic may have increased your anxiety and depression and you are uncertain where to begin. Your worry and fear come out as; anger, sadness and controlling behaviors, due to questioning your worth and self esteem. Will I ever feel truly happy? Will I feel truly loved? Will I find my life path and the career that makes my soul soar? Will I learn to forgive?

I believe every individual is their own expert and has the ability to be the editor to their story finding the truest and empowering version rather than one that’s defined by others or by trauma. All people are capable of achieving a greater potential and have within them, the answers. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, compulsions, history of trauma, social challenges, or executive dysfunction, all of these problems have answers and can be overcome with believing in yourself.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
