You didn’t expect things to turn out this way. You’re heart pounds and your head gets fuzzy. Things are SO challenging lately. You’re feeling Overwhelmed and underappreciated, but.. I mean, everyone’s overwhelmed or feeling self-doubt and pressure, right? Doesn’t everyone feel like they don’t fit in or awkward? You’re really good at putting on that happy face for your friends & family, but inside you feel like nothing ever goes as planned, you’re stressed, unsatisfied and overwhelmed. Going to School or work causes anxiety, staying home causes anxiety and life is just plain Hard!

Sometimes, the reasons why partners become upset with each other run deeper than the present circumstances. When partners persist in doing or saying things that upset each other over and over again, there is often something more at stake than meets the eye. Stop feeling stuck in the same old problem cycle. I have over 30 years helping couples, individuals, and families find new solutions to old problems. I have found my post-graduate training in marriage and family therapy to be a valuable resource in helping others achieve their goals and potential. I have also presented at national conferences.

Therapy is an invitation to begin where you are, just as you are. My first goal is to listen well and to seek to understand you. While my training includes many therapeutic approaches informed by research, I see therapy most of all as a creative process that unfolds within a genuine relationship. I believe that good therapy is flexible and responsive - it can be gentle and compassionate, serious and tough, and sometimes even very funny.

Currently, I provide psychotherapy and assessment services to adolescents, adults, couples, and families, with similar challenges, and clients with intellectual disabilities, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
I believe in order to make changes in our lives, we must first examine the impact that past relationships, experiences, and environments have had on us. The therapeutic process allows us to examine and process how things that have happened to us can impact who we are as individuals and integrate the past into who we are in the present. The therapeutic relationship can help us to identify sources of resilience and strength that can help us to overcome past negative experiences. By connecting our past with who we are in the present, we can start the process of change.

I have a particular focus on women's issues, ADHD, OCD, infertility and compassion fatigue.
Similarly to many of you, the pandemic created an opportunity for me to re-evaluate my choices and to step out of that comfort zone and move towards something new. Exploring new paths can be intimidating but it is also exciting. What I hope to provide for each of my clients as we work together: a place where it is safe to be both vulnerable and brave as you work towards healing and towards your own goals. My focus is working with women, LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those in the helping professions and poly/ethically non monogamous relationships.

I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, relationship problems, life transitions, and trauma.
Are you feeling stuck? Struggling to find your way? Do you tend to blame yourself when things go awry? You’re not alone. We've all been there, and I know firsthand how difficult it can be to reach out for help, but that is your first step toward healing. I believe you have what it takes to heal and grow, but I also know that sometimes that feels impossible. That's where I come in. My focus is creating space for all of you, including the parts of you that keep you going and even the parts that you are ashamed of, scared of, and maybe even hate?

Every therapy session is an opportunity to remove barriers of judgment and shame that frequently block access to self-knowledge, self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-appreciation. I’m passionate about and experienced in working with eating disorders, body image concerns, OCD, anxiety, ADHD, depressive disorders, culture shock/cultural integration, cultural/spiritual identity, international identity, and diversity-related issues.

My ideal client is one that is their authentic self in sessions. I find that when a client is open and honest about who they are and what they struggle with they are also more successful at achieving their goals. I typically see teens and adults who struggle with things like: anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, fear of failure, grief, trauma, and life transitions. I find that most clients want to be heard, understood and validated.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
