My therapy style is client-centered, and I draw from acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT) and psychoanalysis to help build insight and to help you pursue what you value in life.
Feeling alone, depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? Talking about it is the first step, and a hard one at that. I prioritize creating an environment of care and transparency where your values and comfort always come first. The number one goal in therapy is to feel happy and to live a meaningful life. This comes from many smaller goals that we will work on together, whether it be making quality relationships, gaining coping skills, or recovering from past trauma or loss. I also offer psychological testing for those that need extra help making sense of their situation or that need accommodations.

I believe that therapy is an ongoing conversation spread out over a period of time where I, as your therapist, get to know you and try to understand what is creating difficulty in your life. My job is to help create a nonjudgmental and comforting relationship where we can begin to understand you - together. I genuinely care about those I work with, and I believe this curious and compassionate approach is ultimately what makes therapy worthwhile. By understanding you and your challenges, we can help you take steps to truly improve your life.

I am well-versed in trauma-focused therapy, but I also assist clients with therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT), and many others.
Are you looking to become your best self? Many factors can contribute to the difficulty in doing so, but I am here to help you. I am no stranger to hardship and trauma in my personal life as well, so I take a lot of pride in assisting my clients with the proper knowledge, experience, and empathy. Managing a chronic illness of my own has improved my ability to understand challenges differently and truly understand what it means to push to get to a better mental space. If this sounds like something you are looking to achieve, I am the clinician to help you do so.

With almost all clients, I integrate the behavioral approaches of acceptance & commitment therapy ( ACT) and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) to help you discover what's important, take meaningful action in that direction, and use mindfulness skills to relate more compassionately, rather than judgmentally, to painful thoughts and emotions.
Most of my clients come to me with anxiety, obsessive compulsive, or trauma disorders. They find their worlds shrinking as a result and aren't sure how to break the cycle. For clients with anxiety and trauma disorders, I use exposure therapy to break cycles of fear, anxiety, and avoidance. I also see clients troubled by marginalization due to identity, relationship struggles, substance use, and psychotic disorders, and they too deal with pain that gets in the way of what's important in their lives. They often feel trapped or stuck and want to find a way through the barriers keeping them from meaning and purpose in their lives.

My focus is client-centered self-empowerment within a culture of acceptance.
Taking that first brave step toward healing can feel intimidating at first. In order to be successful on your journey to better mental health, you need to feel safe and supported. It is my privilege to provide that to the individuals I serve as a mental health therapist. I strive to ensure my clients feel heard, understood, and learn healthy coping skills needed to navigate past trauma, relationships, anxiety, depression, or daily stressors.

My approach draws on a range of psychological, cognitive, and behavioral treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, pain neuroscience education, and mindfulness-based interventions.
My patients often feel like they've tried everything and still haven’t found relief. That takes a toll. My specialty as a health psychologist focuses on chronic pain management, helping people manage the severity of their pain along with the frustration, sadness, exhaustion, and grief that come along with chronic pain. When it comes to managing pain, having a therapist who specializes in pain matters. I find fulfillment in helping patients like you achieve better quality of life, achieve lasting health improvements, and reach personal goals that otherwise couldn't be met.

Mind over matter. I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I think the main reason we develop mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors that we have picked up along the way. Which means that I think you can unlearn the faulty behaviors and replace them with healthy ones. I believe that even though we can't start over we can start from where we are and change our circumstances.

Are you here because you feel overwhelmed, stuck, and often at odds with yourself? Because – despite feeling desperate to feel something different – you find yourself in the same old patterns? Replaying painful memories, worries & harsh self-talk? Maybe people, even therapists, have commented on your self-awareness. But that doesn't seem to translate to feeling better. Maybe you've tried breathwork or yoga and they helped. But you can't shake the feeling that there's more to explore on your healing path. I'm here for folks looking to heed that wild call to look inward.

Looking for therapy, or clinical supervision for LLPCs in Michigan? I got you covered. I believe building rapport with my clients is the most important part of therapy as well as supervision, and that can lead to long term success. I know you may be feeling nervous and not sure what to do, but I am here to help. I am eclectic and authentic in my approach and I believe that feels more like you are talking to a "normal person" not a robot or a clinician. This leads to a great therapeutic relationship in which we can work together to make life better!

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
