I have focus in the areas of anxiety, depression, life transitions (and adjustments), trauma such as sexual abuse, grief and loss, and low self-esteem.
While navigating through life we are often presented with struggles and challenges that may be difficult to resolve on our own and require guidance and support from someone to successfully push through these challenges with positive outcomes. As a therapist, this is where I come in; I intend to provide individuals (families and couples) a safe haven to explore and work through any area(s) of your life in which you desire to change and/or improve. It is of great importance to me that the client/therapist relationship is established upon openness, candid, with active communication on behalf of both, the client and the therapist.

I started working with domestic violence, sexual abuse and trauma.
Life can be difficult at times and often we struggle to navigate those challenging times. Marriage and trauma difficulties, in particular, can be very personal and often leave us feeling extremely confused and lonely. As a therapist I use the Gottman Method Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy to assist couples. I work with my clients to identify a specific cycle of conflict, identify and express personal longings, increase level of intimacy, and put trust/commitment back into relationships. I also use EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to explore, educate and empower those with trauma and each person I come in contact with.

I've worked with survivors of physical abuse, sexual abuse, assault, cancer, accidents, addiction, loss, and everyday stress.
My specialty is in treating sexual abuse, anxiety, trauma and PTSD effectively and efficiently. I'm trained in 3 evidence-based (validated by research) therapies for treating PTSD, and my goal is to help you find healing without wasting your time or money. During your first appointments, we'll determine the best plan for your therapy. Some approaches emphasize talking, while others have very little talking. Some use creative elements and story, while others work directly to treat your brain and nervous system. I also provide general counseling for depression, anxiety, and relationships.

I not only possess a master's degree in counseling, but I also have decades of experience in recovery from drug, alcohol, sexual abuse and addiction as well as domestic violence.
Are you struggling to make life work? Perhaps stuck in an addiction or habit that you can't seem to break. Are you struggling relationally? Do you wonder where God is in the midst of all your upset? No matter where life has taken you, there is hope for a brighter future. Life truly is amazing if you are willing to do the necessary footwork...and promise not to quit when the going gets tough. Healing can be a painful process but there is nothing like living in the freedom that comes as a result.

I work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety (including OCD & social anxiety), disordered eating/body image, PTSD & trauma (including abuse/assault), and loss.
A wise philosopher once said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Small changes, even increasing self-awareness, can collect and snowball into life-changing transformations. These changes and transformations currently may be hard to imagine or fully believe, and we can still choose to bravely take that step. Whatever length your journey, I offer support along the road and a safe space for exploration, expression, insight, and transformation.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
