Due to my EMDR training (level II certified), I also treat people of all ages with traumatic experiences.
Have a cup of tea or coffee. Sit back, and maybe even wrap in a blanket. Take this time to go wherever you need to go emotionally, knowing this is a judgment free room. As your therapist, I will not be able to solve your problems for you. Actually, I would not want to even if I could. I do not presume that I have answers to your problems, or that my way is the best or only way. I fully believe that you have the answers you need within you, we just need to uncover them. I will walk with you for as long as you want and need.

Have you tried mainstream mental health and it hasn't worked? Has talk therapy not assisted you in discovering what is at the root of any dis-ease you are experiencing? We will work together to assist you at getting better at feeling. We will address any deep rooted traumatic feeling states with EMDR to instantly assist in integrating them so you can interact with your day to day with more clarity. We will also use parts work (internal family systems) to find what parts of you are needing attention.

This might mean focusing on one type of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) or employing several different types of therapy to provide you with the most helpful experience.
I understand that starting the therapy process can be daunting. Finding the right person to meet with, knowing what you want to work on and finding a way to explain it to another person takes courage and determination. I hope to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore what is getting in your way and how to develop the tools for you to move forward.

We support clients in reclaiming their power through the use of EMDR. EMDR is an evidence-based theoretical framework that shifts the way our nervous systems store trauma. It can be used to support clients struggling with any form of trauma, but I specialize in treating race-related stress and trauma that disrupt individuals' relationships to their own bodies, hearts, and minds. I borrow from Resmaa Menakem, Clinical Social Worker & Trauma Expert. He says, "Trauma is the body's protective response to an event -or a series of event - that it perceives as potentially dangerous," not only to our physical bodies but what we care about.

Due to my knowledge and interest in trauma work I have been trained in EMDR and utilize it often in treatment.
As a therapist I work to create a safe, empathetic, judgment-free and welcoming space for you to process difficult experiences, manage life transitions and gain insight. While I have been a counselor for about 4 years, I have been working with trauma survivors and building on that knowledge for the past 10 years. My foundation as a therapist was built on advocacy work for survivors of sexual violence. Additionally, I have worked on several college campuses with students as they manage life transitions and stressors. Lastly, I love working with young adults in processing grief and loss, identity concerns and more.

I am a Certified EMDR Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and others.
Life can throw us some curve balls. We can have extended stress and trauma that leads to depression and anxiety. There is treatment available to assist with these issues. Therapy can also relieve and possibly eliminate some somatic issues that include; chronic pain, migraines, and fatigue that often accompanies stress. Those who also suffer from traumatic injuries who now have chronic pain or phantom pain could benefit from EMDR therapy. First Responders and those in helping professions such as Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, and Therapists (To name just a few) can experience stress from being on the job. There is hope and healing!

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
