It's so challenging to constantly fight through worry, stress, anxiety or other life situations and the impact they have on your happiness and enjoying the life you want. Everybody wants to feel better, be happier, and work through their life stresses!

(Waitlist as of August 24) Complex trauma isn’t a diagnosis, but rather a concept that describes how chronic upsetting, dangerous, and humiliating experiences impact people during childhood. Whatever happened to you matters! Your life experiences will never be trivialized in the therapy space that we create together. "Trauma necessitates survival strategies, but what we need to survive in any given moment may not be the same things that we ultimately need to heal". (T. Zimmerman)

Now accepting new clients - Through over twenty-five years of experience in the human service field I understand our struggles in life can be difficult and lonely. I strive to provide compassionate care to those learning to heal, and I have experience treating: men's issues, parenting issues, anxiety, depression, trauma stemming from childhood and interpersonal relationships, grief and loss, marriage/relationship difficulties, eating disorders/disordered eating, and weight loss related challenges.

I believe therapy should be tailored to what each individual client needs and should be a collaborative process in which clients find their ability to empower themselves and find ways to make positive changes in their life. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe, judgement free place where my clients can explore their lives and experiences to better understand themselves and their goals. I believe in applying a direct, integrative, and inclusive approach helping my clients identify their goals so I can support them on their journey to achieving them.

Over the years, I have worked with numerous clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship, and/or family issues that brought them into my office. These issues left clients either looking for someone to help them unpack unresolved feelings, emotions, and thoughts, or suffering in silence. Many times those thoughts, feelings, and emotions needed to be shared with someone who was willing to actively listen and build a healthy and trusting therapeutic relationship with the client to help find relief. If you are looking for someone to help you unpack and get back on track with life, I would love to help you!

Beginning therapy can be a scary process, but I invite you to be brave and take that first step. In my journey to becoming a counselor, I am struck by the profound intertwining of spiritual growth and emotional healing. Inspired by both my personal walk and the transformative power of therapy, I have committed myself to serve as a vessel — blending evidence-based therapeutic practices with redemptive grace and wisdom of Scripture.

I am a certified LPC supervisor and owner of Sanctuary Counseling which currently has 7 clinicians. I love working with couples that bring any and all concerns to the table, its very rewarding to watch a couple turn from resentment and fear towards intentional love and fulfillment. I also enjoy working with adults to help them identify and meet their goals, often diving into how they are getting in their own way, with the result of them finding a stronger and healthier version of themselves.

Each person's life has incredible value. The problem for many is that they fail to see and or recognize their worth and potential. The good news is that regardless of one's circumstances, or problems, change is always possible. It is ultimately up to us to decide who we will be, and what kind of mark we want to make in this world. As a counselor, I see value in each person, and partner with them to help them discover new ways of thinking, acting and believing.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
