Sometimes you may become overwhelmed due to changes in routine or major events such as a new school, grades, finances, becoming a new parent, losing a loved one, divorce, or conflict in relationships. These life events may lead to anxiety, low self esteem, lack of motivation, and loss of direction. These struggles appear in different ways for each person and lasts for varying amounts of time. However, we can not always recover on our own due to depression, anxiety, past trauma, or other underlying influence. I am a therapist (LPC), here to help you on your journey to healing and becoming your best self.

Do you find yourself always arguing with your child? Does it feel like your minds work completely opposite from each other? You all used to get along so well and now you feel so distant. Or maybe your child is struggling in school and you dread parent-teacher conferences. Maybe your child's friendships have changed in a profoundly negative way and you worry for your child. Growing up and becoming independent has never been more difficult for the younger generation, and I am here to assist your family in navigating these challenges.

I primarily use the modalities of Child Parent Psychotherapy, Infant Parent Psychotherapy, Play therapy, and DBT, as well as elements of PCIT, and CBT.
Welcome! I love working with parents through pregnancy, perinatal/postpartum, and early childhood stages. I often hear similar questions, whose needs do I attend to first? Is this behavior from my child typical or something more concerning? Should I talk about the trauma with my child or could that make it worse? Am I doing this parenting thing right? Parenting is incredibly hard and truthfully, there is no single right way to parent. But you don’t have to sit with those thoughts or questions alone; together we can explore the patterns and experiences of your family, ask questions, and identify what you value most as a parent.

I am licensed, trained and certified in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma Focused CBT, Postpartum Adjustment/Depression (PPA-PPD) and Exposure Therapy for PTSD.
Client needs are my FIRST priority. I am a specialist in evidence-based treatments (EBT), which radically improves my client's success rates, increases effectiveness of treatment, and gets results quickly. The majority of my client's report improvements, within the first session: life-functioning (work- home-school-relationships) and report immediate reduction in symptoms. Reducing anxiety/panic, decreasing depression, developing stronger coping strategies to stress and balancing mood dysregulation are my specialty, as symptoms can result from adjustment challenges to sudden life changes: parenthood/divorce/grief/college. We collaborate on thinking traps, tracking triggers, modifying behavior, successful coping skills and strengthening resiliency.

We specialize in working with women who struggle with being the Good Girl. A "Good Girl" can be the current role of a child/adolescent or the Inner Child of an adult who filled this role growing up. She has a strong desire to be validated, valued, and approved of by others. She seeks this approval by meeting all expectations to the point of suppressing parts of their identity and emotions, conforming, and/or prioritizing the needs of others over self. The Good Girl is constantly pouring from an empty cup because she has been taught that this is how she will receive love.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
