As a counselor, I am a strong believer in the power of finding healing through creative expression, both internally and externally. I work from an integrative mind/body perspective to journey with you in order to better understand what can best support you in your healing. Depending on what fits best for you, I am a Registered Art Therapist and have extensive training in complex trauma. I am also a level 1 graduate in Somatic Experiencing and am trained in EMDR and DBT. I also integrate approaches from Internal Family Systems and other modalities that support the untangling of generational, systemic and environmental trauma.

To support growth, I utilize EMDR, Yoga Therapy, Internal Family Systems, somatic tools, skill-building, mindfulness, etc.
It is so easy to neglect our own emotional health and healing. We take care of everything and everyone else before we think to care for ourselves. If, like so many of us, you are forgetting to care for yourself or you are struggling to sustain your resilience, it is time to turn your attention to your own well-being. These past few years have added to life's difficulties and have increased feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty. I am here to help and I do so much more than the traditional talk therapy.

As a somatic, movement and trauma informed psychotherapist plus my 20+ years of experience in the wellness industry, my therapeutic approach honors the deeply interconnected mind-body relationship.
Are you moving through life on autopilot? Is there a disconnect between what you know and what you do when it comes to taking care of yourself? I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to explore beyond what parts you show the world and get to know your true self. You deserve to live unshackled by pain so you can live joyously and authentically. Life is too short to be anxious, down all the time, or let traumas and hurtful experiences control us. Trauma makes us who we are not and the more you heal, the more you become your authentic self. I believe this is possible for you even if you don't know how to get there yet.

By using mindfulness and somatic based practices, I work to help clients regulate the body's biological responses to trauma.
Connection and acceptance allow us to move through life with hope, dignity, and the ability to embrace our authentic selves. I use a range of therapeutic techniques that are responsive to client needs, but my core therapeutic approach is rooted in humanistic practice. Humanistic psychology views people as innately good, unique, and capable of growth. We can work towards healing, change and growth while acknowledging the strengths you already have. A core value I have is making therapy accessible, and so I offer virtual cash fee sessions based on financial need with as little gatekeeping as possible.

No one knows your life better than you. But when stress, anxiety and fear overwhelm the brain and body, we can become blocked from our own best solutions. When this happens, it can negatively impact our lives and relationships and compromise our ability to cope effectively. Taking the first step toward positive change often means trusting a professional to help guide you toward solutions that resonate with your personal strengths, goals and abilities. I use humor, compassion and comprehensive clinical understanding to bring focus to how our experiences have shaped us - and what we can do to adapt, change, and thrive.

I have discovered in my 30+ years as a therapist that when we get stuck in a certain way of feeling, thinking, or behaving which interferes with our happiness, it is usually rooted in a past historyor perhaps a singular past experience, which traps us in a "programmed" way of being. I work with people to liberate them from these patterns which are often ways that the brain processes these experiences and when they can be reprocessed a person can have a much more functional and happy life. Anxiety, depression and relationship dysfunction can often be healed using these principals.

I specialize in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and in solving painful, heartbreaking, devastating cases. Living through traumatic events may result in expectations of danger, betrayal, or potential harm within new or old relationships. Survivors may feel vulnerable and need clarification about what is safe. Therefore, trusting others, even those you previously trusted, may be challenging. It may feel frightening to get close to people for fear of being hurt in an unsafe world. When we conclude, you will see that building trust in old and new relationships is essential to healthy relationships after trauma.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
