Are you someone who experienced trauma, and now struggles with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trust, and community? My passion is working with survivors of trauma, including survivors who have experienced intimate partner violence/domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. I have extensive training and experience working with survivors aside from clinical work, including volunteering as a victim advocate on a college campus, being a SANE victim advocate, and working in two domestic violence shelters. I have 60+ hours of training in advocacy, trauma-informed-care, crisis intervention, and safety planning.

I have specialized in helping those suffering with depression, anxiety, grief, divorce, sexual abuse, domestic violence and life transitions.
Caring people feel emotions more intensely. Whether its paralyzing anxiety, the continual cloud of depression or heartbreaking loss your daily struggle is valid. You may find making decisions about your relationships, career/college path, or everyday life extremely difficult. Earlier trauma only complicates the emotional pain and attempts to cope. You deserve to feel understood, listened to, and worthy while healing, building healthy coping skills, regaining positivity and confidence. Therapy is a trusting, respectful, nonjudgemental path forward for yourself. Caring people deserve a compassionate therapist.

I have focus in the areas of anxiety, depression, life transitions (and adjustments), trauma such as sexual abuse, grief and loss, and low self-esteem.
While navigating through life we are often presented with struggles and challenges that may be difficult to resolve on our own and require guidance and support from someone to successfully push through these challenges with positive outcomes. As a therapist, this is where I come in; I intend to provide individuals (families and couples) a safe haven to explore and work through any area(s) of your life in which you desire to change and/or improve. It is of great importance to me that the client/therapist relationship is established upon openness, candid, with active communication on behalf of both, the client and the therapist.

In my role as a clinical therapist I have found my passion in helping others remember and re-experience their own strengths and courage. I use a combination of several clinical interventions that have a strong solution focused baseline with plenty of room carved out for processing and simply feeling what needs to be felt. In my work I focus heavily on those who are seeking to recover from trauma, the impacts of severe and persistent mental health symptoms, religious trauma, sexual abuse as well as those who face anxiety, depression and ADHD symptoms.

**Accepting new clients** Strong people ask for help, knowing that everybody has a story and within each of us lies the ability to examine the past so we can move into the future. I encourage you to ask yourself not "what's wrong with me ?" but rather, "what happened to me?" Stop thinking "I need therapy" and start focusing on "I want therapy." Therapy is not about mental illness - it's about mental health. Focus on the fact that therapy is an experience that is normal, natural and a journey others have navigated. Life presents all of us with challenges but if we meet the challange and learn from it then we also grow from it.

I have been in private clinical practice for 22 years. I have specifically trained to work with children, adolescents, young adults and older adults. My time is spent fairly equally working with mental health and substance abuse issues. Likewise, I have chosen to not focus on one specific age group, finding it to be more satisfying to see various aged people. I spend the most time with young adults, from ages of 16-26. I enjoy working with couples; though challenging, I can often offer a safe place for them to listen to one another.

Life is beautiful! But the human experience can also be painful and difficult. Are you longing for peace and emotional well-being? Do you desire to make changes in your life, gain a new perspective, and heal? Anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, grief, guilt, shame, and broken relationships can take a toll on the mind and body. I believe that restoration, wholeness, and health are possible. Sometimes we all need a radically non-judgmental ally to hear us, understand us, offer support and insight, and help equip us with the tools we need to live our best lives.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
