Hi, my name is Angie and I’m a master’s licensed social worker and graduated from the University of Michigan. I have over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, parents, grief, domestic violence, substance misuse, and depression. I am certified in infant mental health and perinatal mental health. I have experience helping a variety of individuals and I’m sure together we can conquer whatever is causing you distress or what you are needing to process. We are all on this earth together and we need each other. I believe therapy should be a sounding board to help you work through your thoughts and feelings.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing transitions to and through parenthood, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), relationship concerns, life transitions, depression, and anxiety.
I work with people through life transitions, parenting challenges, and relationship concerns. I see each person holistically including mind, body, and spirit. I hope to acknowledge the mind-body connection and honor this through the therapeutic process. I am an experienced yoga teacher and will integrate mindfulness-based approaches and movement as a client prefers. During therapy, I will work with you to identify goals and help you take steps to move towards your goals. I will listen non-judgmentally and seek to witness and understand your perspective and experiences. I work to provide anti racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

I most recently assisted in facilitating a support group for women experiencing postpartum depression.
Often life’s transitions can be difficult to navigate and we can have barriers, past or present, which inhibit our ability to change and adapt. I believe in the individuals’ ability to change and reconcile ourselves with the challenges and difficulties that life presents.

I am counselor trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, perinatal mental health, infant mental health, and grief & loss.
We were never meant to do life alone... and when we find ourselves in a place of feeling alone, it can be incredibly painful. My practice is informed by the belief that the greatest healing happens in the context of relationships- and that in order to experience true comfort and healing, we have to compassionately connect with the very things that are bringing us discomfort. When engaging in our therapy space, we (both me and those I serve) show up as our imperfect and vulnerable selves- knowing that we are worthy of connection, worthy of belonging, and worthy of the courageous work that we engage in together.

I have experience and I am very passionate about working with those within the adoption constellation, families, pregnant/postpartum, and those experiencing grief.
Hi- I’m so happy you’re here! Being human is not always easy, and, at times, navigating what life has to offer can feel complicated or overwhelming. Because of this, we all sometimes need some extra support, a listening-ear, or a safe space to just talk about everything and anything. I would love to work with you to build a safe, meaningful, and collaborative space to explore your thoughts and emotions while also helping you to develop new skills, understandings, and ways of healing.

There is hope, a ‘second chance’ and restoration for you. I have worked as a therapist over 25 years with various situations.

I believe that therapy should be individualized for everyone. Therapy is not one size fits all, and because of that I draw from an eclectic approach. I focus on empowering clients to take control of their lives and the way they think in connection with their actions. I am skilled and trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, CBT (in general) and DBT. I am willing to also explore other techniques and methods that would better suit my client if they find that these methods do not fit them.

My ideal clients are dealing with life. Transitions, trauma, relationships, or just dealing with the world...all of these things come without a manual of how to manage. I work with individuals in adolescence through adulthood dealing with a variety of issues such as trauma/PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria. I meet with families struggling with poor communication and life transitions. I provide couples therapy to those struggling with communication, connection, boundaries, parenting, and exploring non-monogamy. I work with individuals and couples who identify as LGBTQIA+.

I graduated with my Master's in Professional Counseling in 2019 from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI. I started my career in mental health working at an all-male therapeutic juvenile delinquent facility. My experience working there solidified my passion and desire to work with victims of trauma and abuse. I believe that therapy is the client and therapist coming together to work as a team; you are the expert of your life and I have the knowledge and tools to help you master your life in whatever way you desire.

People are sometimes challenged by turbulent emotions, transitions, losses or chronic mood issues. The day to day experience of emotional distress or an underlying sense of uneasiness affect vitality and are difficult to endure over time. Verbal dialogue within a relationship designed for you to freely express yourself, explore feelings and discover unconscious factors impacting you describes the change process of psychotherapy. I have seen many individuals over the years not only have symptom relief but find new paths while shedding patterns of disabling emotions, thoughts and behavior.

I believe that healing, growth, and change are possible when people enter into therapy with a willingness to share their truth, feel, and try new things. These positive changes can include a decrease in negative symptoms, increased self-esteem, improved communication skills, and enhanced relationships.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
