I work with individuals, couples, and families with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, premarital therapy, infidelity, relationship conflict, divorce/remarriage, family-of-origin conflict, academic/profession-related struggles, grief/loss, LGBTQ+ issues, and difficulties with life stressors and transitions.
I believe all clients possess the solutions to their problems. Therapy is a place to discover these solutions and find new ways of thinking, behaving, and feeling. Working from a systemic and insight-oriented perspective, I help clients achieve a better sense of awareness that can alter behavior and functioning. As a client-focused therapist, I strongly value the therapeutic relationship. Whether the focus is to alleviate current stress or understand life-long issues, I provide a safe, supportive, and compassionate space that allows us to develop a collaborative relationship to work towards achieving the goals of the client.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults (both individuals and couples), helping them find relief from depression, anxiety, grief, life-stage transitions, as well as family and intimate relationship problems. I like helping my clients figure out how to reduce the impact of anxiety, stress, or depression on their lives and take steps to safeguard their mental health. It is a privilege to watch my clients grow and heal, investing in themselves as they work toward overcoming their environmental, psychological challenges and other problems that hold them back from leading more peaceful and fulfilling lives.

It is a privilege and honor to work with people in this field and would love the chance to work with you or your family.
Our goal in life is to be loved. We are remembered for how we make people feel. My goal as a therapist is to help families, couples and individuals with communication, coping and relationship skills to create a life that is this as loving and connected as possible. I have specialized in substance abuse for years. This has given me insight into abandonment issues, the need to escape to create emotional distance in relationships and how these types of patterns play out in relationships. My strengths are helping people to reconnect to their purpose in life and finding meaning in the relationships in their lives and rebuilding trust.

I am a limited license marriage and family therapist providing care for individuals, couples and families.
When people look at you, it looks like you have it all, but life feels painful. You are successful, driven, and dependable. You have worked so hard to create the life of your dreams, but it feels like life is falling apart. Your marriage maybe falling apart or your important relationships strained. Something has to change because living this way is not working. You have tried to follow the rules and do everything by the book. You have tried to keep everyone happy. Yet, it all feels lost. You can’t go on like this. This is not what you want for your life. You are at the end of your rope, and it’s time for a change.

My first experience with therapy was as a child in family therapy. While I cannot articulate what the specific goals or interventions were, I do remember the therapist took their time in meeting with each family member to better understand us. To be seen and feel valued, as an individual and within the dynamics of a family unit, is crucial to doing the work that comes with therapy. While there are great opportunities to change, there is also a level of discomfort in navigating the space between where we are and where we want to be.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
