I work as a therapist because I believe we can experience real healing in our lives. The broken world in which we live frequently leaves scars and wounds. And we often wound others. As a Christian therapist I believe God heals significantly. I work with Christians and non Christians alike with respect for individual values and beliefs. Therapy begins with developing a respectful, trusting relationship. The client and therapist begin a journey to enable the client to reconcile, their past, their present, and their beliefs. It can enable them to work toward future goals successfully.

I am a Christian Counselor specializing in families, relationship redemption, and female clients navigating life cycle changes.
And who knows but that you have come to your position for such a time as this. -Esther 4:14 We are created to be in community and we were created at this time and in this place for a reason. While there are times when relationships need to end, many times we are just caught up in bad patterns that we have the power to change. When we change our communication patterns, learn to create and hold to boundaries, and learn to regulate our nervous systems we are more available to one another.

I also have extensive experience in wrestling with Christian faith/spiritual identity.
In the human experience, few emotions are more debilitating than shame. Maybe it’s the voice in your head beating you down at every turn. Maybe you find yourself stuck in past mistakes, or overwhelmed by everything that could go wrong in the future. Maybe experience has taught you to find yourself less-than in worth, relationship, and ability. When dealing with this kind of pain, vulnerability becomes unbelievably challenging, but incredibly healing.

Being heard and validated are two of the most powerful avenues to feeling a sense of belonging and worth. Unfortunately, we run into situations in life that shut us down, tell us our life experience doesn't count, and we leave those situations feeling empty and uncertain about what we've done wrong. Through therapy, we learn to find ourselves through our values and we learn new skills to navigate the hills and valleys of life so that when those situations come up, we can come out of them stronger and more sure of ourselves. I look forward to walking that path alongside you while you discover how you can have a full life and thrive.

Hi, I'm Ellery. I consider it a privilege to work with individuals that are actively seeking change. I understand that it is uncomfortable to discuss intimate life topics with a stranger, and believe that trust building is essential to the growth of a client. As a therapist, it is my top priority to provide a safe and welcoming space where you will feel respected, supported, and heard. I believe therapy needs to be collaborative and am always looking for client input on what is working and why.

Your anxieties and worries are controlling too much of your life. That anxious inner voice won’t quiet down, and it’s just so convincing - you're frustrated that you listen to it, but you're scared not to. What if you ignore it and your worst fears come true? You know it’s irrational, but your anxiety just won’t let your brain believe the truth. You overthink so many things, and your inner dialog is exhausting you.

If you're searching for a therapist who will encourage you to stay in counseling for years while holding your hand singing camp songs, I suggest you keep looking. But if you prefer a trained clinician whose approach to counseling is goal-oriented and solution-focused, contact my office staff to set up an appointment. You can trust that I will be sensitive and empathetic, but since you are hiring me to do a job, I will be directive in identifying the best approach to solve your problems. Most of my clinical practice focuses on Relational/Marriage issues as well as Anxiety/Depression.

I believe when behaviors are viewed as changeable and manageable, we are no longer limited to past patterns and cycles, but gain the potential to bring balance and control to our reactions, and ultimately, to our lives. I look forward to continuing to work with individuals and families to meet their unique challenges, and often interpersonal issues. I work to guide my clients to challenge unhelpful thoughts and behavioral patterns and to foster increased awareness to help improve the overall quality of life of each person.

Do you feel like you're stuck in survival mode? Trauma and pent up stress can feel plaguing and inescapable, but that doesn't have to be your forever reality. You CAN feel like you are in control of your life again. You are capable of experiencing life beyond survival again. And you are deserving of all the support to get there! As a team, I would love to work with you to help you overcome whatever is preventing you from thriving right now. It takes a lot of strength to reach out when you are in need, and I don't take that lightly.

Christian Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.
Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.
How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.
Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
