I am a psychologist working with everyday people with everyday struggles. My philosophy is guided by my unwavering belief in people's ability to achieve their greatest potential & become their true authentic self. I coach people who are feeling down, overwhelmed, anxious, conflicted, coping with change and transitions, making decisions, or struggling with marital or relationship challenges. While many people can manage their problems on their own, the therapeutic process often enables them to reach their goals and decrease symptoms and stress more quickly.

Offering a holistic approach, I am an AASECT certified sex therapist trained in the Gottman Method of couples therapy and EMDR for trauma.
Updated: I have 1 opening for a new tele therapy client in MI or IN. Many people are in their heads rather than in their body during intimacy. You may be thinking about things so much that you can’t enjoy pleasure in the moment. Maybe you are thinking about your performance or playing mental gymnastics during intimacy taking away from your pleasure and connection.

Previous trauma can also stand in the way of enjoyment and bring unexpected pain.

Maybe you lack desire and have a low libido, wishing you enjoyed intimacy as much as your partner does. Everyone deserves pleasure and connection and you are not alone.

I see therapy as a gateway to strengthening our authentic self through healing, learning, acceptance and growth. It is often through our self-proclaimed imperfections that we find the greatest gifts, insights and points of focus that help us understand and become clear about the path we are walking and the possibilities that are before us. We have all known suffering, loss, trauma and despair. These experiences may shape us but they do not have to define us.

An important aspect of any therapeutic relationship is the rapport and ease you have in discussing your issues and concerns with your therapist. I believe the right fit between the client and therapist is in large part a function of the flexibility in approach and ways of intervening with you as an individual client. I see the therapeutic relationship as being a collaborative partnership that is outcome focused in addressing your issues and concerns. The emphasis is on doing what is most effective in moving you toward your desired outcomes in the least amount of time possible.

Psychotherapy is an opportunity to enhance learning about behavior, emotions, relationships, and oneself. My goal is to work through the difficulties you are experiencing now while we also build your resiliency to prevent or minimize future difficulties. I ask clients to devote time in between sessions to our work: to increase how accurately we understand your concerns and to take the therapeutic work into your everyday life. I value collaborating with you, and collaborating with other health care providers as needed. Clients often describe me as calm, warm, invested, curious and well-trained.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
