Relationships are the foundation of our lives. Relationships can be ever changing, The change in a relationship can be expected or unexpected. Marital, pre-marital, family, work, friendships, parenting all have a impact on your life. You may have become stuck in a relationship where you feel you can’t grow, or a relationship you would like to salvage, or you just want out. Your relationship does not have to involve a person, you can have a relationship with gambling, alcohol abuse, diabetes distress, or stress. You want to challenge whatever relationship you have that impacts your life outside of your vision for your life.

As challenges arise and hardship appears, remember to breathe and take a few minutes to self- reflect. Allow your mind, body and spirit to connect to your inner self and envision peace . Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. Remember reaching out for assistance is the first step to healing. Mental health can be difficult but rewarding. As we work together we will navigate through unknown worriedness, difficulties, and challenges. Remember, no matter what you are going through, you deserve support and happiness. My goal is to create a safe space for you and to help you achieve as many goals as possible.

I probably don’t need to tell you we’re living in a racist, sexist, heteronormative, capitalist dystopian nightmare in a slow and painful collapse. It’s hard to cope with that knowledge while dealing with day-to-day nonsense, on top of reliving past trauma on a regular basis. It’s a lot and it’s heavy and it sucks. Some people turn to substances and other vices to cope.

I had the opportunity to encounter many individuals from all walks of life with many issues that seemingly disturbed their “PEACE”. Those encounters encouraged my counseling journey. My belief is that every individual should live a life of “PEACE”. I believe that “PEACE” is accomplished by combating issues that have disturbed one’s emotional, financial, physical, and spiritual health. My ultimate goal is to assist clients in exploring and processing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, to improve their quality of life engulfed in “PEACE”.

I have dealt with depression and anxiety for about 20 years, and it wasn't until I finally got the help I needed through CBT and EMDR that everything started to make sense, and my mental health began to take a turn for the best. I believe that in the same way, these therapies helped me deal with the negative symptoms that plagued my life for so long, they can also help you. I want to help you understand why you feel the way you feel so that you can address it and begin living your best life.

Existential dread, or adversity in everyday life antagonizes everyone at some point. Life seems to happen all the time, then, when it rains, it pours. Sometimes we suffer more than we triumph, and when we do, its easy to get lost. Seeking safety in our most vulnerable times can appear impossible, but it is not. I offer a safe space and understanding. My ideal client base are people who are seeking solutions, and willing to do the necessary actions to create the changes that they most prefer. When there is a problem, there are always multiple solutions. The goal is to help everyone no matter how complicated the problems/issues are.

At some point in our lives we will experience emotional and psychological distress. Most people will try to avoid, or go through their distress without seeking help. People choose to do this because they are not sure how therapy will help them. Therapy helps us understand why we act and respond in ways that cause us harm, get through ruff times, strengthen our family ties and bonds, build healthier relationships and fix the mess we have made in our lives. Therapy helps us to identify and process feelings and emotions, so that we can grow and move forward to lead more productive and quality lives.

Hi y'all, I'm Malanna, rhymes with Madonna! I’m quite the unorthodox therapist, so I’ve been told, because I approach mental health with the same sincerity that we take with our physical health. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the people who sit in front of me and trust me with their vulnerability. I'm big on cooperation; pairing your self-insights with my expertise. I'll do my best to help you highlight all of your hidden strengths, buried wins, and natural gifts that life can make us lose sight of. I currently offer telehealth services but I can guarantee it’ll be just as good as seeing me in person.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
