Individuals dealing with addiction tend to have destructive negative thinking that bring on things like depression and anxiety.
The foundation of counseling should be a healthy therapeutic relationship between counselor and client. I help individuals learn about themselves and get more of an understanding of why they feel what they feel. Working with an individual to establish what and why when solving a particular problem should be a collaborative effort. I empower the individual by helping them realize that they do have the tools to be able to handle what life throws at them. We may not be able to control the world around us but we are in control of our own decisions and how we react.

Choosing a therapist is VERY important. It should be someone with whom you feel trust, comfort and in good care. If you don't, it's not a "good fit" because therapy is about the relationship you have with your therapist. I always say, "I don't do nails, hair or surgery so our progress is based on how you feel with me and the trust we establish". I am hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, perceptive and determined to do my best. I am passionate about this work. Anxiety, depression/mood, panic, relationship issues, ADHD, addiction, self-harm, name some areas of expertise.

I am a cognitive-trained therapist who specializes in treating couples and individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, relationship issues, and childhood trauma.
When life becomes overwhelming, therapy can be an opportunity to identify barriers to happiness, to manage the difficulties you're experiencing, and to feel better. Therapy offers an amazing opportunity to discover more about who you are and what it is we want. This work offers us a chance to grow and evolve, and to view the world more realistically with less distortion, denial and delusion, and to live in the freedom that comes to us seeing things the way that they really are. Therapy can help us find compassion for ourselves, to have patience with the unresolved, and find the courage to live more fully in the moment.

My goal as a therapist is to help others learn about and understand their issues in a safe and open environment. Seeking out help can be scary and stressful, and my hope is to make people feel comfortable addressing their needs without feeling judged. Therapy is a unique and personal experience, and I provide empathy, active listening, and various interventions to match each person’s needs and goals. I use a mixture of therapeutic techniques to help individuals identify the issues they would like to focus on and to develop goals. I believe goal setting and providing tools to cope are imperative to success in therapy.

Echoes of your earliest traumas grow stronger as grief makes it difficult to breathe. You’ll be trapped here forever; you’re sure of it. Trapped in a cycle of pain that seems impossible to break, as if on an empty rollercoaster that never stops. You’ve endured one loss after the other… after the other. Now, you’re back in the loop again, repeating unhealthy patterns that have never worked and never will. You can see there’s a ride less draining, and more thrilling, and it’s right in front of you but just out of reach. So, you continue to stay put, alone, both anxious and defeated, going round and round again.

If all you know is that you just don’t want to be where you are now, then maybe we can take the time to find where you’d like to be and how you personally can best get there in time. Change is slow and can be emotionally difficult, but there’s rarely only one precise path to any goal. By talking and taking things one day at a time, I’m sure you’ll eventually look back and see how far you’ve come through the eyes of who you’ve then become. While no counselor is perfect for everyone, I’d love to help in your journey if I’m able. I work with clients from many different walks of life facing many different issues.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
