Life can change in a flash. Transitions are not always expected. Job loss, chronic illness, death of a loved one, a pandemic - not to mention those we do plan, such as moving, empty nest, retirement, and others. We often try to avoid transitions because change can be hard. Even a positive change can cause feelings of loss, anxiety, overwhelmed and often leads to anxiety or depression. Those suffering from emotional instability, trauma & loss, or other life stressors causing mental health disturbance, acquiring new skills through tools and meeting goals, will allow for greater self-understanding, offering an enhanced quality of life.

Clients report improved mood, clarity of thought, enhanced sense of wellbeing, confidence and better sleep.
You wake up exhausted and dread facing the day ahead of you. Life feels heavy and everything seems like a burden. The anxiety or sadness you experience sometimes catches you unawares. It feels like you've tried every tool in your toolkit but something isn't clicking. You’ve had better days and you wish you could just make this feeling of angst go away. Trauma is a physiological response to a situation or event that overwhelms the body. As Peter Levine states “Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence”.

My expertise includes addressing trauma, sex, sleep issues, depression, anxiety, and moral injury.
Life can be incredibly challenging, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or hopeless. These emotions can sometimes lead us to act in ways that don’t align with who we want to be. Therapy provides the tools to help you thrive (or, when necessary, survive) and offers a supportive space where you can feel accepted and empowered. It also helps you gain better self-understanding, stay present during tough times, and nurture more positive emotions.

There has been a constant stream of worries, no matter how hard you try “not to think about it.” Once one thing subsides, your mind immediately moves on to the next. You feel tense and tight all the time and it’s affecting your sleep and ability to concentrate on anything else. If you’re being honest, it feels really lonely and isolating. People say you just need to let it go, but it’s not that easy. It feels like drowning in an ocean of negative thinking at times.

If you’re here searching through profiles, you might be going through a particularly hard time. Perhaps you are walking through a challenging life experience or you’re feeling unsettled or overwhelmed without an obvious reason. Sometimes we can name exactly what we need support with or want to work on; other times you might have trouble with anxiety symptoms, sleep, low energy, or feeling tearful without knowing why. In either case we deserve relief and to live with more overall ease. Healing isn't just about fixing problems, it's about creating a life that has meaning and joy!

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
