I provide individual therapy to adults, assisting clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, grief and loss, adjustment issues, and relationship concerns.
Stress, life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma; and that was all before breakfast. Finding the right therapist is important. My approach blends humor, compassion, and practical coping skills to improve mood, manage anxiety, enhance well-being, and rediscover meaning and purpose in your life. Perfectionism, self-defeating thought patterns, and fears of inadequacy can damage self-worth. Through therapy, we can create healthier patterns of relating with self and others. You are the expert in your experience; I bring a strengths-based, supportive, and solution-focused approach to empower you to reach your therapeutic goals.

I have extensive experience working with various types of trauma. I am trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I also see individuals with body image issues, depression, stress, grief and loss, divorce adjustment, relationship, parenting issues, women's issues, and behavior management. I start with a person centered approach which includes genuiness, empathy and unconditional positive regard. Once we develop a strong therapeutic relationship other techniques will be added as necessary.

Life can be hard, lonely and overwhelming at times. No matter what you do, it just never seems to be enough. I work with adults going through any phase of life or major life event, like the death of a loved one or perhaps mom and dad are not quite themselves and are requiring more care. Other major life events could be learning you or a loved one have a life limiting or chronic illness. Whatever you are struggling with, who you are and what you want all matter.

My approach to therapy draws on ideas rooted in client-centered, cognitive behavioral, and existentialist theories. Clients are all unique in their goals and search for meaning in life. My initial aim is to provide a nonjudgmental space for self-exploration. I offer a safe space for clients seeking hope. I guide clients through their own introspection which leads to revelation and healing. I also apply a cognitive behavioral lens to challenge and reframe automatic thoughts that hold clients back.

I hope to have clients who will be honest with me and let me help them where they are at. My clients don't have to be perfect, just willing to challenge themselves to trust the therapeutic process. The goal is to persevere and continue working on improvement, not expect perfection.

I practice Integrative Psychotherapy, which incorporates all aspects of the person in the change process. Many people who seek counseling do so as a result of experiencing a problem that they cannot resolve on their own. This creates difficulties in moods, behaviors, and relationships as that problem begins to drain their energy and attention. My goal is to assist you in re-connecting with a sense of balance, or integration, in your life.

Due to telehealth, I can take clients from anywhere in Michigan. I enjoy working with clients who are up for a little work and challenge. I have a strong belief in the idea that therapy isn't something that is done to us, but rather something we must take an active role in to see any true progress. I view therapy as another way to add more tools to our toolbox in an effort to better ourselves. My goal is that by working together, you will learn things in a manner that allows you to function at your best regardless of what life throws at you.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
