We will explore techniques designed to meet your specific situation, which can include EMDR.
Are you struggling with dealing with the storms of life? Please know-You are not alone! Many of us experience challenges, yet oftentimes it is difficult to find a safe person and space to express these concerns without being judged. Life changes constantly. Do every day events leave you feeling overwhelmed, drained and unmotivated? Every day activities seem to be extremely difficult. Constant demands of family, work and relationships are stressful, and you know it’s time to make some changes. Losses of all kinds (the loss of a loved one, job, or relationship), can trigger a mirage of emotions or feelings of lack of control.

While we can't change difficult situations of the past or present, we can work together to better understand those experiences and how they may be affecting your life today. By utilizing a variety of complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

My experience working with survivors of trauma and my specialization in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help you resolve the root of your suffering.
You’re defeated, broken, and feeling trapped in your past. Life has not been easy for you and along the way you seem to have lost who you are. The trauma you have experienced is affecting you daily, making you feel helpless. Unable to love yourself you struggle to set and maintain boundaries. The pressure to please others is exhausting and you can't seem to find balance or support in your life. Your history of abuse triggers you to impulsively react- rather than logically respond during difficult situations. You’re looking for guidance to process through all the baggage, uncertainty, and stress.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, and ADHD, as well as using techniques of EMDR.
Let’s be honest, it’s no secret that life can be full of unexpected twists and turns, some of which can cause a ripple effect on ourselves and our lives. But how do you manage when those ripple effects aren’t for the better, and leave you struggling with where you want to be in life? Sometimes even admitting that we need help can be one of the hardest things to do, so it is so important that you connect with someone who can provide you with a safe, supportive environment where you can be authentic and not mask what’s really going on.

Using a variety of techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR we will help you find ways to skillfully manage your emotions.
This constant anxiety, followed by crippling bouts of depression, is preventing you from living your life. Even on good days, your negative self-talk beats you into a sleepy paralysis. Everyone can be hard on themselves, but your mind has become downright violent. It’s exhausting trying to anticipate when it will strike next. You can’t trust your own thoughts. It’s obvious that your painful past isn’t going away on its own. It takes all you’ve got to get through the day. And most days it takes more than that. Stuck in a vicious cycle with no end in sight, you know you can’t handle this alone anymore. But what choice do you have?

I offer EMDR, Somatic/IFS therapy, Art exercises, and trauma focused reintegration.
You are a high achiever with perfectionistic tendencies and often feel overwhelmed by your thoughts or feelings, avoiding them is easier but may not be working anymore. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, depersonalization, ADHD, chronic pain, OCD, overwhelm, or desire increased self-care and self-esteem. Relationships often feel challenging, causing you to question if you do in fact deserve meaningful connections with others. You yearn for deeper connections, however, may be uncertain where to begin. You question if the fragments of your past came together, perhaps your story would feel more complete.

In addition to traditional therapeutic approaches, I am also trained in EMDR and hypnosis and utilize these approaches to optimize healing.
When life is difficult there are people trained to support and uplift. Through therapy we develop an awareness of who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. Knowledge and emotional sensitivity is empowering, ultimately increasing an internally driven sense of direction and comfort.

I am also certified in Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Seeking connection is an integral part of being a human being. Often times our primary relationships with family members do not provide the connection that helps us feel the love and peace that we deserve. Through the therapeutic process, we can learn about how to seek relationships and connections that can bring this happiness to our lives. Sometimes this may mean creating boundaries with family members or friends or possibly ending those relationships we deem unhealthy. Through counseling, we are able to restore ourselves and our "families." This may mean our families of origin or simply the friends that we have chosen as our family.

This is what you thought therapy was supposed to be like. I have nearly 30 years’ experience in dozens of settings and several states, but your story will always be unique to me. I specialize in child/parent relationships, anxiety and depression, substance abuse, trauma work, self harm behaviors, and I have training in CBT and DBT. More recently, I was fully trained in EMDR, and am a Level 2 EMDR practitioner, and am working toward full certification. I have already seen the significant impact that EMDR can have for so many of my clients.

I have training in EMDR, the Gottman couples method, and perinatal mental health.
It's more than worrying. It's more than stress. Anxiety is getting in your way-affecting you at work, at school, or in your relationships. Racing or obsessive thoughts may make it next to impossible to focus or be present in your life. These feelings may cause you to avoid things you love, make you fear your own thoughts, or get in the way of healthy relationships. Your anxiety may cause physical symptoms or a general sense of doom or unease. This can be frustrating or absolutely terrifying. With empathy, honesty, a sense of humor, and respect, I can help you be free of fear!

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
