You may be suffering from: trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, career or relationship concerns, a spiritual crisis or even neuro-divergency concerns.
You are weary, fragile and feel like you are coasting through life checking all of the boxes. Your attempts to mask your true feelings and thoughts are not yielding the results you are looking for. You have been questioning yourself and are unsure how to move forward. You may feel disconnected and struggle to manage and overcome difficulties or achieve life goals. Ignoring your intuition and gut feelings to please others causes: attachment to ideas, people and possessions. You are done making yourself fit into boxes and have outgrown other's expectations. You are ready to honor your unique needs and preferences.

Individuals dealing with addiction tend to have destructive negative thinking that bring on things like depression and anxiety.
The foundation of counseling should be a healthy therapeutic relationship between counselor and client. I help individuals learn about themselves and get more of an understanding of why they feel what they feel. Working with an individual to establish what and why when solving a particular problem should be a collaborative effort. I empower the individual by helping them realize that they do have the tools to be able to handle what life throws at them. We may not be able to control the world around us but we are in control of our own decisions and how we react.

You face unique challenges, and deserve to find a way to work towards breaking free from the cycle of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt.
In today’s fast-paced world, you're bombarded with endless to-do lists and the relentless voice of your inner critic. It's understandable to feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the pressures of society to feel you need to be everything to everyone. It is easy to lose sight of your true worth as a human, minimizing your strengths, neglecting your own needs and letting your boundaries blur. If that sounds familiar, I encourage you to embrace your imperfections and cultivate self-compassion while understanding your: anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, self worth and how lifestyle transitions play into our complexities.

Most often I work with people seeking help with the common challenges of adult life: relationship/family issues; grief and loss; adult child recovery; depression; codependency; addictions; health concerns; career/financial challenges; and unfulfilled spiritual yearnings - drawing from cognitive-behaviorial, psychodynamic, and transpersonal methodology.
Finding the best individual and marriage therapist for you can seem daunting. Talking to us, asking questions, paying attention to your feelings and intuition, all help. My 30 years experience as a compassionate, well-trained psychotherapist give me the background and skills to support you in achieving your goals, which might include: resolving immediate symptoms; recognizing and appreciating core strengths; developing deeper self awareness and acceptance; and learning the skills of empowered, effective communication. I am experienced in working with the newer spiritual growth paradigms, as in the work of Eckhart Tolle.

I work with people experiencing the full range of difficulties; from life transitions, conflicts, painful symptoms such as depression and anxiety, to more severe issues.
You are likely considering therapy or counseling for yourself, a family member, or a friend. Generally, a person considers treatment for two reasons. Either you are reacting to an immediate event or crisis in your life or have been thinking about addressing ongoing issues. My approach to therapy is empathic, interactive and rooted in time-tested techniques that produce deep, long-lasting change. Numerous studies have shown that results in therapy have less to do with a particular "brand" of therapy, and more to do with the of the quality of relationship between a skilled practitioner and an invested patient.

Depression Therapists
What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
