I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples. Couple's work is helpful for restoring intimacy, closeness, and communication. Couples work can also be useful for one's individual psychotherapy as partners often help to bring attention to areas of life which have been neglected. Long-term relationships have ups and downs, multiple stressors, as well as developmental phases, which can rupture relationships. Couples therapy is very dynamic. A well-trained couples' therapist can bring a marriage back from the brink of disaster allowing an entire family to avoid the trauma and financial devastation of divorce.

Are you a non-birthing parent and looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to talk to someone about mental health? Please reach out for consultation to see if I would be a good fit for you! Often the everyday stresses of life can be more than we can handle already, being a new/expecting parent or can add significantly to that load. If you find that you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or thoughts of hopelessness, we can work side by side to navigate those feelings and create strong and stable foundations to meet them head on.

Over the past 14 years working in schools with teachers, students, parents, and families, I’ve become familiar with the many stressors and adjustments that occur for kids, adolescents, and parents during the journey of growing up. Its my belief that adults, all of us, also benefit from counseling and intentional work to take care of ourselves. To that end, I create a space free from judgement where you can be yourself and together we can work toward reaching your goals.

After 42 years of practice, I've learned there is no one-size fits all-everyone is unique. The best psychotherapists are creative, flexible, and harvest wisdom and techniques from many different models. I believe this approach is most helpful and apply my many years of experience in psychology, integrative medicine, mindfulness, and nutrition towards a compassionate style of healing. I try to educate, inspire, explain, and guide. Feeling safe is the most important aspect in creating a close connection.. My unusual background and training helps me to treat a broad range of emotional problems including illness and life stress.

There is no health without mental health. I really like this slogan which was recently used to promote National Mental Health Awareness Month. It reminds us that maintaining mental health is not optional, but essential to our capacity to live fully and joyfully. I would also note that psychotherapy is not only helpful for when we are struggling, but it also can help us when things are going well! Therapy can provide a safe and consistent space for us to continue to grow in self-awareness, empathy and wisdom. I have served as a Master's level licensed psychologist since 2005.

Watching your child struggle can be one of the most difficult parts of being a parent. Whether a child is feeling sad or angry, acting out, has difficulty making friends, worries too often, or is struggling with school, a parent just wants to help in any way they can. My career is committed to working with children, adolescents and families to create more harmonious and satisfying lives.

Warm, kind, compassionate, empathetic and nonjudgmental. These are the qualities that I value and practice as a therapist and educator for over 30 years. Working with pre-teens, teens, young adults and their families to problem solve and fulfill their goals is my life’s work. I have been a teacher, school counselor and now a therapist, working with kids on a variety of issues in their lives. I have a special passion working with LGBTQ+ individuals to help them be their authentic selves, fulfill their dreams, live their lives and follow their journeys at their own pace – and support their parents and families in the process.

Therapy offers a place and relationship in which to be heard, to be understood and promote growth and change. My practice offers opportunities to a wide variety of people for insight and understanding that makes a difference in how life is lived. I feel this occurs through the emergence of and appreciation for a very unique and meaningful relationship grounded in compassion, patience and appreciation for all of one's experience.

I am here to support your most loving, vivid, relational and authentic self; and to help bring care to the ways and places your wholeness is or becomes blocked. I also specialize in supporting couples to drop beneath old narratives and into real feelings, where connection and meaningful change can occur. People reach out to me to support a variety of needs and longings, which I deeply appreciate. I notice that the clients who find our time particularly valuable are those who are seeking deeper connections with themselves, others and the world. Our work together steps beyond diagnosis, into vast possibility.

I believe that therapy can be for everyone. Personal growth is a life long journey and therapy can help people realistically asses themselves and the manner in which they perceive, interact, and act within their world. I am here to help people achieve a change that promotes balance, growth, understanding and to become a “Master of their actions, not a prisoner of their reactions”. I also believe humor can be used as an integral tool in the therapy experience. It often illuminates the many strange and challenging predicaments that we all face at times.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
